Logan Byrd Decommit

Looks like 2016 QB commitment Logan Byrd is decommitting from the Hokies. Not a huge loss considering QB Dwayne Lawson is still in the same class. Speaking of Lawson, I found this quote from the article interesting ...

"The Hokies signed highly-touted Tampa quarterback Dwayne Lawson this winter and also added Lawson's high school coordinator Max Warner as an offensive quality control assistant, perhaps signaling what direction the quarterback situation will go in upcoming years."

Two things. Is this kind of thing common? Do schools hire high school coaches that are associated with recruits? And also, what the hell is an "offensive quality control assistant"? Not saying this sounds fishy ... but this sounds fishy.

***INsider: VT & Rivals150 Forward***

Guys, I spoke earlier with Boys Latin School (Md.) class of 2016 three-star forward Kodye Pugh. He's ranked No. 147 in the Rivals150 and VT offered him last month.

The Hokies are in excellent shape with Pugh. He visited last month for the Florida State game and said he really likes the coaching staff, the players and the school. Pugh said he likes how VT is a good arts school and wants to major in graphic engineering or architecture.

The main coach recruiting Pugh is assistant Isaac Chew, though coach Buzz Williams has also been to see him play. Pugh said he feels like both are great coaches and "care about their players."

Pugh is up to 11 offers, but the one to really watch here, I think is Georgetown. The Hoyas have always done a great job recruiting the DMV and Pugh has been there multiple times for visits and games. He visited Temple this past weekend for the game against UCONN.

This one will likely play out through the summer as he likely rises through the rankings. Pugh is playing AAU for We R 1, so he'll get some good exposure. But the Hokies have put themselves in excellent position here, especially getting him to visit already.

***INsider: One Of VT's New Offers***

Guys, I just spoke a little while with Hapeville Charter (Ga.) class of 2017 CB LeAnthony Williams, who VT just offered at the end of last week. Williams also has a Kentucky offer.

Strangely, Williams said he doesn't know a lot about VT in part because he hasn't talked to the assistant coach who offered him, Torrian Gray. Williams said he was excited for the offer, though, because he's wanted to play in the ACC. The reason is "because they're always getting downgraded by the SEC."

The only place Williams has been is Alabama for a visit a few weeks ago. He also went to Kentucky briefly during his freshman year. With Alabama, though, if they offer, that will most likely instantly be his leader. He knows Rivals250 OL Dallas Warmack, who just enrolled early this spring there. But a long way to go. He'll wait at least though his junior season, likely.

This is a good young offer for the Hokies. Going against Alabama is always a struggle, though again, the Tide haven't offered yet. We'll get a better look at him at our Rivals camp, likely in Atlanta in two weeks.

***INsider: Jordon Brown Latest***

Guys, I spoke a little earlier with Southern Durham (NC) four-star RB Jordon Brown. As we reported last week, he visited VT over the weekend for junior day, though he doesn't have an offer from the Hokies just yet.

The visit was Brown's first to Blacksburg and he said he liked the campus and facilities. He said he and his family also rode the tour bus around VT, to see all the buildings and everything.

Brown said he spoke on his visit with assistant coaches Charley Wiles, his main recruiter and Shane Beamer. He said both told him they liked his versatility, but both also told him how they're not taking many overall in the 2016 class. Brown said he feels like an offer might come later this spring.

Obviously, Brown has interest in VT, as this is the only visit he's made out of state. Brown, the No. 4 all-purpose back and No. 9 player in NC, has visited all four ACC in-state schools. He'll actually be back at North Carolina Saturday for the Duke basketball game. The one he talked the most about when I asked if any were standing out, was Wake Forest. Brown said he just feels like that staff is very interested in him and always makes him feel comfortable.

No other visits are planned, but it sounds like there's a good chance Brown could be back at VT later this spring and/or possibly one of the Hokies' camps this summer.
