Article on Bucky Hodges Prop Prospects...

Based on what I saw from Memphis offense today I would leave if I was Bucky.....

If Bucky is going to listen to anyone, it should be the NFL.
He's not likely to go in the 1st 3 rounds this year, so he'll leave a ton of $$$ on the table.
Next year he'd likely go 1st, maybe 2nd round.

All that said, I think he is gone -- and I do not blame him.

IMO, Hodges is too light to be a blocking TE in the pros so he will only be on the field on passing downs which would give him away as a specialist. Me thinks that will hurt his chances going as a true TE.

In order to attract interest as an H back or split out more, he needs more work and exposure.

I agree with others and that this year he may get drafted in the middle to lower rounds but if he came back another year he would go higher.

20+ lbs good weight

Bucky need's to stay a 1000%. I do not think he goes in the first 5 rounds. He has good speed, but if you take your fan shades off, and break down the tape he left a LOT of plays on the field and had a few very critical drops this year. He made some good plays too, and had a pretty good season, but not lottery pick type of season. NFL teams are going to grill his tape and I think that there will be a lot of tape that they will not like. Another year with good tape and good attitude and he can go top 15 easy. Also If he has not graduated school yet he would be very very very very dumb to leave because after 1st round NOTHING is guaranteed.

Bucky wasn't our best tight end, he was more of a slot. Ryan Malleck is going to have a good NFL career. Wouldn't shock me if Malleck has a longer and better NFL career than Hodges.

Bucky's combine will make somebody salivate even if his film does not. Will it be enough to get some team to abandon plan and go TE earlier than anticipated? I won't be stunned if that happens, but that's the only scenario in which he'll go early. Still think he goes, regardless of NFL advisory

I think he could learn a lot under Fuente. It's no secret he was underutilized by Loeffler. He didn't play half the time in our scheme. He wasn't even the best receiver on our team. That said, I think his upside is off the charts. Either way it's a risk. He's not in NFL shape at all. Also, I could never figure out how fast he was, he has such long strides, it's hard to determine. Fuente,IMHO, would give him 7 or 8 catches a game. Of course, Ford next year will be phenomenal barring any injuries. Best of luck to him no matter what he does.

Most of our skill players did not play enough. We used a different skill set/formation on most every play.

A lot of guys had great combines and bad tape and not get drafted... Advisory just takes a glance at you and comes to that conclusion.. If a team puts on the ECU film and watch other games and see all the consistency issues they will not draft him until late because that is a pick they can gamble on.. not worth it if it not a guarantee first round contract. He as made a lot of plays but he supposed to, he is a starting TE at a D1 college they will look at the plays he didn't make and that what will hurt him IMO. I want what is best for him if he goes oh well, but I really think he needs another year to polish himself and put good tape out.

Ford's #s will go down next year if we have any other WR with a pulse.

RB4 said it the best in that Hodges "left some big plays on the field."

He generally makes the easy catches but not the awesome catches whose players go in the early rounds.

Well, it's a matter of need. TE is not a position of great need (as projected by the NFL) this year.
And I hope he will consider all these things because he decided several weeks ago to go. Maybe someone will snatch him up just because of potential....I can see him being a Greg Olsen type te.

It's really hard to fault any kid for going early, regardless of projections, advice, etc. I think it's in his best interest to stay, but who knows?

I absolutely agree with you there. I bet Fuego would find a way to kill defenses with him and make him a regular on sportscenter. Nothing guaranteed either way of course, but with all other information considered, its the smartest route at this point if he's looking for big money.

Plus he needs another year to turn up the meanness and use his size to bully pass defenders. There's no way these 5'11 guys should be defending him on accurate passes, especially lobs. A slight hip-check in the air from Hodges would be like getting tazed.
