The Miami Dolphins start their quest for the Super Bowl tonight with their 2024 preseason opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

Coach Mike McDaniel is entering his third season in South Florida. He has turned the Dolphins into an offensive powerhouse and has reached the playoffs each year, but Miami has yet to win a postseason game in his tenure. 2023 was a banner year for the team, with Tua Tagovailoa leading all quarterbacks with 4,624 passing yards, Tyreek Hill leading all receivers with 1,799 yards and 13 touchdowns, and Raheem Mostert leading all running backs with 18 rushing TDs.

Tagovailoa signed a hefty new contract during training camp, but he likely won't be playing in tonight's preseason game. Instead, all eyes will be on the two quarterbacks fighting to be his backup: Mike White and Skylar Thompson. White was the No. 2 QB last season after spending his first two years with the New York Jets. Thompson was the emergency starter, but he started the Dolphins' regular-season finale and playoff game in 2022 after Tua got hurt.

Tonight will be fans' first chance to see the Dolphins' rookies in action. Pass rusher Chop Robinson will show how he can improve the Dolphins defense after several offseason departures, while running back Jaylen Wright and wide receiver Malik Washington will state their case to be featured on the dynamic offense.
