We are going to finish strong, bringing in 3-4 more players with 2 of them being 4 stars. With the addition of Hunter, and a likely strong finish, we will finish in the top 25, maybe even getting to about 20th if we land 2 more four star players and 2 more three star players.
Based on literally a 12 month difference in time, VT has no business finishing around 20th in the nation in recruiting in my opinion. I base that on the shape the program was in when Beamer left. It certainly was not in shambles, but we were not "good." We had achieved a status slightly above mediocrity and our recruiting rankings had been showing it. Again, credit Whit Babcock for being smart and getting Coach Fu, and credit Coach Fu for upping the level of the program in 1 short year. There are multiple reasons or variables why some schools recruit very well. One of those variables is winning on the field by Wins and Losses. Winning the Coastal this year and taking Clemson to the wire in the ACC Title game sends a strong message to High School Coaches in Virginia......and that is, "Coach Fu can flat out coach." When High School coaches in Va "buy in" to Virginia Tech's system offensively, that spells trouble for the rest of the ACC. They already know Bud's capability. The future is bright for VT football as High School Coaches in Virginia are buying in......or believing that Coach Fu has a modernized offensive system. That distrust in our offensive system started in 2006-7ish and continued until Beamer left.
