Chatted with Muskegon, Mich. head coach Shane Fairfield today about new Virginia Tech ATH commit Kalil Pimpleton, and Fairfield gushed about the newest Hokie. You can catch his comments in the article below.

I wasn't around yesterday for this commitment, but wanted to drop a couple thoughts on Kalil today. I see this as a risk/reward type pick up. As someone else noted, he did not have a lot of significant interest outside of VT. In fact, if you would have asked me a couple months ago I would have expected JaCorey Sullivan to be the first WR at Muskegon to get a big offer.

The reward part is two-fold, though, as I see it. First, Pimpleton is obviously explosive and you cannot teach that type of quickness, agility and play-making ability. If he or VT can find a way to compensate or mitigate his size disadvantage then they have a very unique ball player on their hands. The second potential reward is that Virginia Tech has offered two of his teammates - LB Andrew Ward and 2018 OL Antwan Reed. Having Pimpleton in the fold certainly helps in their pursuit of those guys. As Coach notes in that article, KP is a leader amongst his peers.

The drawback is that obviously he has size limitations - not just height, but build. There have been plenty of short WR/RB types who have gone on to success in CFB, but the vast majority have been solidly built. Coach said Pimpleton is benching 280 and squatting 415 for two reps, but 160 is still awfully slight.
