Guys, I spoke earlier with Bayside (Va.) 2018 WR Armani Chatman. He has one lone offer right now, from Virginia Tech, but that probably won't stay that way for long. He has interest right now from Tennessee, Maryland, Duke, Penn State and Alabama.
Chatman picked up the VT offer last month. And on Feb. 6, he took part in the Hokies' junior day, which happened to also be his first visit to Blacksburg. Chatman told me he went to the basketball game and got a better feel for the new coaches and what they're doing on offense and defense. VT s recruiting him as an athlete right now, so it's not a sure thing on which side of the ball he'd play, but right now, I think it would be at receiver.
Assistant coach Zohn Burden is the main recruiter here and Chatman said they have a good relationship. Chatman said Burden tells him he's "big-time."
Chatman also has been to Virginia, but that was before Bronco Mendenhall was hired. Chatman said he hasn't been since Mendenhall was hired, but thinks UVA is "a nice school."
Very early here. I don't get the sense that he's enamored with VT, but he likes the Hokies. Sounds like he's in absolutely no hurry, though, either, so this one will be a while. But you can bet VT will be working this one steadily.
