Guys, I just got off the phone a few minutes ago with Jefferson (Ga.) three-star offensive lineman Caleb Chandler. He was just offered by Virginia Tech today, which made offer No. 21. Florida offered last night, while Memphis offered last week.

First off, Chandler is a big, country boy. He told me his first love is baseball, which he has played since he can remember. He's huge now, at 6'5" and almost 300 pounds, so he plays DH. Chandler told me his teammates call him 'Big Papi' because he's so big, like David Ortiz and can hit home runs about as far.

But football is where Chandler said he knows his future is. With the Hokies, assistant coach Vance Vice offered, which means something, as picky as we know he is about who he offers. Chandler told me they've talked just about every day here recently. He said that Vice has told him how much he likes him and has even made sure Chandler has seen video of how the OL has looked this spring.

It sounds like Chandler doesn't know a ton about the Hokies, but he really likes Vice and is certainly intrigued by what he does know. Chandler told me, "Virginia Tech is up there."

No plans to visit right now, but Chandler told me the three he definitely wants to see this summer are VT, Florida and Tennessee. He plans on visiting Georgia Saturday for the spring game there.

This recruitment will last for a while. Not a lot of visits right now, since Chandler is in the middle of baseball season. He told me he hopes to make a decision in the week after his senior football season. That's a few weeks into December, which is the dead period and also why he wants to announce then, plus not to be a distraction to his team. I like this kid a lot. Very polite, well-mannered kid, but I think it's a bit early to say there's a favorite or where anyone stands.
