Guys, I just got off the phone literally 15 minutes ago with Capital (WV) three-star linebacker Dorian Etheridge. He visited VT today with his mom. I had been told the visit was gonna take place tomorrow, but Etheridge moved it up so he could attend practice today.
Etheridge last visited VT Feb. 27 for junior day, so it wasn't that long ago. This is the first time he told me he got to see the Hokies practice. He also was on hand last July for VT's final recruit camp of the summer. On this one-day trip, Etheridge told me he liked the energy that he saw in practice and liked hanging around the team.
Assistant coach Torrian Gray had been recruiting Etheridge, but he told me that defensive coordinator Bud Foster has been in contact for some time and now assistant Brian Mitchell is his primary recruiter. That makes sense, since Mitchell helped recruit Etheridge when he was at West Virginia. "They all tried to get me to commit today, but that’s every time," Etheridge said. "We always have a good time."
And as far as VT overall, I get the feeling the Hokies have climbed a bit with him. "I think they're moving forward as a program overall," Etheridge told me.
Right now, Etheridge is on his spring break, but this was the only visit he took this week. He visited South Carolina a few weeks ago and also went to West Virginia a couple of weeks ago and on Feb. 28, got an offer from Pittsburgh while on a visit there. No visits are planned right now, though he told me he'll likely be in Charlotte April 17 for the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour stop there. So I'll see him there.
VT is in great position here and that's a big reason the Hokies are pushing him to commit. But WV will be in it until the very end, along with Pittsburgh and Tennessee, where he went for a game last fall. No date set, but Etheridge said he wants to commit at the end of the summer, before his season.
