Guys, I spoke earlier with one of the newest offers for VT, Florence (Ala.) 2017 three-star LB J'Marick Woods. The Hokies offered yesterday, his 11th offer, joining Penn State, Kentucky, Duke, Florida, Michigan and Tennessee among others.
Woods told me he doesn't know much about VT right now. But he's very familiar with the Hokies' coaches that came from Memphis, as they recruited him there. Assistant Holmon Wiggins is Woods' primary coach, though assistant coach Galen Scott has also been in touch and is helping. Woods said Wiggins has gotten some praise from Woods' coaches and said of Wiggins "He's a real cool guy, good at his job." So there are some positives right off the bat.
However, I can tell you that the school standing out most to Woods right now is by far Duke. Woods said he plans on visiting there March 5 for the basketball game against UNC. Woods said he likes the education aspect of Duke and how "people who graduate from Duke get paid six figures." He also likes how safety Jeremy Cash excelled there the past few seasons.
The only other junior day Woods has been to was Kentucky. I get the impression that he liked it there, but due in part to some shakeups on the staff, the Wildcats aren't a serious contender. It sounds like Duke is the early favorite here, but we'll see. VT has to get him on campus. I'll be seeing Woods at the Atlanta stop of the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour April 2.
