Guys, I spoke earlier with James Clemens (Ala.) four-star DE LaBryan Ray, one of the Hokies' newest offers. That offer came last week. Ray now has 25 offers, with other offers also coming recently from Oklahoma, Tulane, Florida State, Cincinnati and South Carolina.
Ray said he doesn't know a lot about the Hokies, but knows plenty about former coach Frank Beamer and remembers watching him, growing up. Ray said he also knows how well VT has done in the ACC. Honestly, I'm not sure what to make of this next part. It could be a sign of zero interest in VT or it could be a sign of just so many schools coming at him, it's hard to keep track. But when I asked which coach recruited him from the Hokies (It's Holmon Wiggins), he didn't know. He searched around while we were on the phone for about a minute and couldn;t come up with a name, only that they DMd on Twitter and when Ray called, the offer came. We'll see if that changes, but VT has a lot of work to do here.
Ray told me the last three weekends, he's been to junior days at Mississippi St (Feb. 6), Georgia Tech (Feb 13) and Louisville (Feb 20). He plans on visiting Florida State this weekend, the last of his planned visits.
When I asked Ray which schools stood out, he said he hasn't gotten there yet. But it's safe to say the four he has and will visit, are in high consideration. Always a good sign for interest. Alabama, though, has offered and though Ray didn't mention the Tide, they're surely in strong consideration as the big in-state school. Again, Ray has interest in VT, but with so many schools involved, they've really gotta work if they want this one.
