Guys, I spoke earlier with Jennings (La.) two-star running back Travis Etienne. This kid is on a roll right now. He's up to 17 offers, including VT, which offered yesterday.
Etienne participated in both the Nike and Rivals camps over the past month and most of his offers have come after that. He won the fastest man competition at the Nike camp, with a hand time of 4.38. He said he's run a laser time of 4.43.
As you can imagine, these offers have come so fast that Etienne said he hasn't had much time to think them over. With the Hokies, he said the main thing he knows is that they use their running backs and VT has a good engineering program.
Assistant coach Galen Scott is the primary recruiter here, but Etienne said that when he called Scott to talk yesterday, coach Justin Fuente is actually the one who made the offer. Eteienne said Fuente told him he thought he'd be "a perfect fit" on and off of the field and could compete and play early as a freshman.
Tennessee seems to really have caught his attention. The Vols offered Sunday, after his Nike camp performance. Etienne plans on visiting Alabama Saturday for the spring game, but after that the next place he wants to visit Tennessee. He also mentioned Oklahoma State as well, so keep an eye out there, too.
Not sure when or if he'll get to VT. There's interest, but it would have to be sometime over the summer. It sounds like he's in no hurry to decide, since he hopes he can get even more offers. Whenever his interest slows down, that's when he'll start to narrow things down. When Rivals re-releases the rankings next month, expect this guy to be three-stars at minimum, likely a high three-star or low four-star. He's got speed to burn. which is always appealing.
