Guys, just wanted to provide an update on two more visitors over the past couple of days, Raines (Fla.) four-star wide receiver Rick Wells and Hannibal (Mo.) three-star OL Dylan Powell. Both left VT around lunch today.
I had trouble getting with Wells for much of the afternoon. He actually called me back about 20 minutes ago, but he was already at Florida. We spoke very briefly, but as I've mentioned before, I didn't do a full interview because he's already on an official visit with the Gators. He got there a couple of hours ago or so.
Wells told me it was good seeing his friend, Isaiah Ford, who was also his host. He told me "Everything is still good" with the Hokies. I have a good feeling about this one for VT, but a lot depends on how the next two days at Florida go. No decision expected until Wednesday on signing day.
I also spoke with Powell about 30 minutes ago. He was sitting in the St. Louis airport, where he was set to board a flight a few minutes after we talked for Phoenix, then San Francisco to go to his official visit at Stanford. Obviously because Powell wasn't on a visit, we spoke much more at length.
Powell told me he felt like he got to see and do a little of everything at VT. He told me, "I was really impressed. I already know Hokie nation is a close family." Powell said he obviously saw how all the offices and everything in Merryman is still pretty gutted, but was impressed with what the final result will look like.
Powell was hosted by OL Billy Ray Mitchell. Powell said he also spent an hour or more just sitting down and talking with assistant coach Vance Vice, who sees Powell as a center. Powell said he feels like the calls are pretty easy to pick up, which he liked. He also spoke about an hour with coach Justin Fuente, which he liked. You guys should like this quote from Powell: "I was really impressed. It exceeded my expectations. They’re gonna be competing for championships and that definitely excited me."
At Stanford, Powell said he's looking to see how comfortable he is and if he fits in. He didn't go into a lot of detail, but said he's just looking forward to seeing everything. The thing to note here is that he now plans to announce his decision Tuesday instead of Monday. He said he now needs another day to talk with his family. Like Wells, this is another one who I think is leaning towards VT after his visit, but we've gotta wait and see how the next two days go for his visit out at Stanford.
