Mallik Willis, new football verbal sounds like a great kid!

I really like the way recruiting is going this Summer. Part of my complaining in the past is that the former staff didnt recruit offense with "purpose", just recruit who they could and adjust whatever offense they could to suit the personnel they got. With this staff I feel like they are going after certain recruits that they feel would fit their system. I like the fact that they are casting a huge net too...Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Juco, etc...Not to bash the former staff, I just feel like they are more focused on offensive recruiting than in the past.

I'm with you there. They seem to have some gusto. I'm pleasantly surprised so far.

Reactions: VT/UK Rondo
Seems like I heard he gave football up and was trying out being a strength coach with the previous regime. I'd like to know for sure though.

Just read Acree got a full time position with the VT strength and conditioning staff.

We didnt get any of the top 10 in-state kids last year...
in 2015, we got only #3 Tim Settles...
in 2014, we #9 Raymon Minor and #10 Travon McMillian...
in 2013, we got #7 Wyatt Teller...
Losing the states top talent is not something new. Its still early and when we do land a top 10 in-state talent, its USUALLY late in the recruiting process. As I understand it, we are still in good with Devon Hunter, Sutherland, Capehart, Becton, Franklin, Hunt and even Garbutt, all good instate talents and Im probably missing a few.

Additionally, this staff seems to be really recruiting Florida and Georgia hard. Tons of talent in those states and If they want to be Hokies and the Virginia kids dont, then Im fine with missing on the instate kids.

Perhaps you folks know something I don't, but so far the best recruit we have committed is ranked # 17 in the state. So tell me again why you think recruiting is going good?

No top 10 instate recruits last year...
In 2015, there was only #3 Settle...
In 2014, there was #9 Minor and #10 McMillian...
In 2013, there was #7 Teller...

Also, this staff appears to be really recruiting Florida and Georgia hard and If a 3star athletic GA kid wants to be a Hokie and is willing to buy into Fuentes system, I would much rather have him than a in-state 4star that doesnt want to be a Hokie and is only concerned with himself. That said, I think this Willis kid is going to be a great addition to the Hokie Nation- a 6'2 athletic kid that can run and catch should fit nicely into Fuentes offense.
