It seems like a lot of athletes change their mind during the recruitment process. I see the value in having a place on some team, just to know you have the peace of mind of going to college somewhere, tuition free. Perhaps the NCAA should consider a period of time (say 30 days) from a commitments initial pledge to make it binding, and be done with the process. It would need to be written (thus changing the August 1 date for letters of written offers), signed, and accepted, and would be a lot less drama with these kids. I see pro's and con's both ways, and there certainly should be exceptions (coach leaving, behavior issues, etc), but it could be a step in the right direction.
