Qb was a bit disappointing. Willis made good reads and seems to connect well with Grimsley. JJ was about (not quite) as good at seasons end smh. Hooker got mop up duty at the spring game.
RB: I’m not sure why Fox doesn’t get more carries. McClease looks better than last year already. Holston is tough but I can’t get a read on him. Peoples is full beast mode. Damn he’s grown.
OL. Had good pockets but let down at times. Nobody really stood out. Other than McClease breaking open a big one , we still don’t look great in the running game
WR: Patterson had the best day. One handed grab from Willis. Savoy let one bounce off his shoulder pads for a int. But had a long catch for a TD (again by Willis). Grimsley looks to be a factor this year. Caught several out on the edge and does well with the ball in his hand.
DE/DL Gaines looks strong and fast. He’s gonna be a force. DeBose is very physical and played well. Garbutt was in on a lot of plays and looks to be in the 2 deep
LB: Rivers looks the part o a linebacker. Better speed than I expected. He plays very very physical and try’s to punish you. Tisdale is long and athletic. Really good speed but seemed a bit thin. Played well though
DBs: Hunter looked good. Not great imo. Shows excellent speed and packs a mean punch. Ladler to me was the MVP on defense. Int off of a reflection but almost had another and was in on what seemed like every play on the first half. Receivers didn’t get much separation except on a few plays. And the defense paid for it. For the most part the backs looked long and athletic but other than Hunter and Ladler I can’t think of anyone else sticking out.
Overall defense shut down the O in the first half. Second was all offense. But overall I wasn’t impressed by run offense or seen any improvement there. I feel good about our running backs Clease, Peoples, Holston. But I’d put fox ahead of Holston. Defense was stout but gave up a few big plays. But they collapsed the pocket often and played tight on the back end.
Hard to look to much into with so many game experiences players out. Anyways. Thanks for reading my long post. Just my take on today’s scrimmage.
