Even though Virginia Tech has a game tomorrow, the coaching staff hasn't stuck close to Blacksburg in preparation for Marshall - instead, some members have been making sure they make their presence known in the homes and schools of recruits.

The primary travels have related to a drop in on the current commits (especially forJustin Fuente, who hasn't had to travel too far and wide: he was in-home with local lineman Jesse Hanson last night, for example). The staff wants to make sure they have all their ducks in a row with the verbal commitments.

For defensive line coach Charley Wiles, that's meant a trip to Florida, where all three current commits in his position group reside. He's expected at Deerfield Beach (Fla.) High today, to check in on pledge Brandon Dorlus. As I shared this morning, there's pessimism that they can hold onto Dorlus with an official visit to Florida looming this weekend, but that won't result in the staff simply giving up. If he makes it out of Gainesville without flipping to the Gators, I think there's a decent chance VT can hold onto him (especially since it should mean an official to VT before early Signing Day, too). Of course, the overwhelming feeling is that he does indeed become a Gator this weekend.

The other coach making key rounds is Assistant Head Coach Adam Lechtenberg. He's checking out several junior college programs - not just to make his presence felt on the recruiting trail, but also as an evaluation opportunity. It would not surprise to see some new Juco offers go out this weekend or early next week, in addition to some of the key existing junior college prospects getting their official visits to Blacksburg squared away (this weekend would have been the choice... but the Hokies' situation has obviously changed with the Marshall game's late scheduling). Most of those will happen the Dec. 7 weekend.

Stay tuned for more on the latest updates from the coaches on the road.
