I've been told to keep an eye on Chesapeake (Va.) Oscar Smith 2019 defensive back Cam'Ron Kelly today:
He'll announce a commitment at 10:30 this morning at his school. He's told at least one school on his list that he won't be coming, and a couple of the other options have filled up in the defensive backfield and don't have room for him at this time. Will their loss ultimately be Virginia Tech's gain?
He's a very solid player, and despite not paying him enough attention early, it sounds like the Hokies would be happy to have him today. After recent recruiting losses in the Commonwealth, it might behoove them to take a Rivals250 kid from the 757, even if they were a little iffy on him earlier (not because they don't believe in his talent, but because of space in the class and fit in the Lunch Pail D's system).
The No. 135 overall player in the nation and No. 5 prospect in Virginia is certainly nothing to sneeze at.
In the name of clarity and transparency, I have not been told from Virginia Tech's end that they're definitely getting him (and given that this sudden resurgence of a realistic possibility to land him cropped up this morning, it's been more than a month since I've talked to Kelly himself or his immediate camp). I have, however, been told that he's a take at VT even though he had eliminated the Hokies from his earlier list. I guess we'll be tuning in later this morning along with eight other fanbases to see the final choice.
