Virginia Tech has worked hard to be a factor at Buford (Ga.) High under Justin Fuente's coaching staff. The Hokies nearly landed 2018 running back Anthony Grant (who had a late change of heart and went with Florida State on Signing Day), and have brought numerous players from the school on campus visits.
The best chance to land one of the Wolves in the Class of 2019 is offensive lineman Riley Simonds, and VT just offered 2020 athlete Elijah Turner yesterday afternoon.
This effort has been spearheaded by offensive line coach Vance Vice, the primary recruiter for the Hokies in Georgia. That he's also the OL coach helps in the case of Simonds, and that he's one of the better recruiters on the staff (despite his reputation prior to this class - simply take a look at the better results in Georgia under this staff if you don't believe it; he can't be solely blamed for a lack of interest from offensive linemen when it's the area recruiter's job to initiate those relationships) only amplifies that.
Vice was in Buford High School yesterday, and the returns from that stop only reinforce to me that Simonds will be a Hokie when the time comes (and it's not too far off - he'll make a Summer choice after seeing Florida and VT one more time). There are also inroads to the rest of the talent. VT has offered plenty, and while the Harry Millers of the world are not going to be fruitful pursuits, there's plenty of reason to remain a player in Buford High and Gwinnett County in general. The Hokies are on pace to do just that.
