Obviously the plan for the Chargers was to go with Herbert long-term, but to lose your starting spot because the team doctor injured you during a procedure... man, that's rough. (Also I'm not sure the specifics of NFL contracts, but it seems to me he has a medical malpractice suit worth several million dollars if he chooses to go that route).
