UNCHEATERS Lose

It could not have happened to a nicer slime ball.

That was a really pathetic, lame "effort" by UNC's big men last night. Until there was 4:00 left in the game, I watched in amazement as they all stood around and watched dribble penetration all game long without providing any help defense, and then watched them all stand around and watch 1 UNC player battle 4 Nova players for rebounds. Nova dominated UNC in the paint on both sides of the ball with a much smaller lineup, and that was all 100% effort on their part.

You can't show up at a title game and half-ass it like UNC did and still expect to win. The fact that the game still came down to one shot shows how one-sided the game could've been in the other direction. Also, William's weird player rotations disrupted offensive flow, and UNC basically played at Nova's pace and tried to outshoot Nova instead of pushing the ball and pounding it inside, which has been UNC's game all year.

I said before the game that it was UNC's to lose...well they sure went to extraordinary lengths to lose it. Congrats to Nova for showing up ready to play with everything they had last night. As bad as UNC's big men were, though, the guards were terrific. They almost single handily won the game for UNC.

I think Villanova's defense had a lot to do with the inability of UNC to get easy shoots inside. They pressed the guards and forced them to make poor passes to the inside. Also, there was a lot of contact in the inside, but few fouls called. Most of the fouls were on the outside play.

I do agree that Roy can now go stick his head in the ground regarding the NCAA investigation (or lack of punishment). Does anyone think UNC will actually have any punishment?

It's all guesswork, but I'd say...
  • Football may get up to 3 yrs, 3 schollies, maybe some money and symbolic stuff (vacating wins, zzzzzz)
  • Basketball may get the Syracuse treatment and it'll have about the same effect - or less.
  • All adds up to zero punishment, certainly nothing that will set their programs back.
  • What should happen, but won't? The uNCAA should shut down all demonstrably dirty programs at UNCaa for about 3 years. The violations (athletic and academic) have been so egregious and widespread, it is difficult to imagine the academic dean and the AD were not directly involved. Regardless, their offices have certainly been involved. The attempts at covering it all up and the subsequent lies to which it all gave birth have been almost comically blatant.

The North Carolina Athletic Association is not going to do anything that will cause a significant decrease in their income.
