Statement from Whit Babcock

Nothing new in here, but the athletic department is keeping everything monitored as much as can be:

Virginia Tech Athletics recognizes the disruption and uncertainty that the COVID-19 situation has caused for all individuals associated with the Virginia Tech community, particularly our student-athletes and their families. The safety and well-being of our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans continues to be our highest priority.

Virginia Tech Athletics continues to be in regular communication with University, ACC leadership and Virginia Tech Athletics Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Mark Rogers, as we monitor developments related to the coronavirus. We are all navigating an unprecedented situation that continues to evolve daily.

We recognize that there will continue to be questions and implications for our student-athletes, teams and our fans as developments continue to unfold. We are working diligently to help our coaches and support staff provide resources our student-athletes need, whether they are currently on campus, are returning to campus or are at another location.

For the most current information on the University’s response and answers to frequently asked questions, please visit vt.edu/flu/2019Coronavirus.html.

Please know that we are here to support our student-athletes and our staff. This is home, after all. We appreciate the patience of our fans, students, donors and partners as we work to provide answers and solutions created by this public health situation. We will get through this together!

NC RB Evan Pryor to Ohio State

VT wasn't in the mix for quite some time, but North Carolina was the other finalist:

It'll be intriguing to see if this takes a little bit of bloom of the Tar Heels' rose in the eyes of recruits, or makes it more difficult for the Hokies to land a head-to-head running back target with UNC's need to pursue options after Pryor.

Fortunately, TreVeyon Henderson didn't have North Carolina in his top 15 back in January, so UNC might not be able to become a threat for VT's top target (and Henderson did include Ohio State in that top group, while the Bucks are now likely out of it for him). There are other threats for the top in-state back, of course - and I wouldn't call VT the favorite by any stretch, though they're in the hunt - but every little bit is going to help there.

Offered CB off the board

To Ohio State:

There was never a whole lot of traction here, especially when the Buckeyes were already in the mix before the Hokies even showed attention. Certainly the Hokies shouldn't plan their recruiting around running scared from anyone, but there's also a balance of not throwing out offers where you'll have no chance to land a kid 1) wasting your time evaluating guys to issue lost-cause offers, and 2) making your serious targets think that a VT offer is no big deal because everybody has one.

Staff still trying to find that balance.

The CBI has been canceled

That's almost certainly the end of the Hokies' postseason hopes:

Assuming the top four in the league make the tournament, and the three postseason-eligible teams (i.e. not Georgia Tech) with winning records make the NIT, assuming that tournament goes on... I don't see many - if any - more teams making it, and the Hokies are almost certainly behind Miami in the pecking order, and maybe Clemson.
