If he lands at UNC or Penn State, that probably is better for VT in terms of reducing competition for other top tailbacks in the region. (Of course, on the field there's a different equation).

He comes from a power program in the Blair School (the Hokies have an active 2021 offer out too: to four-star DE Aaron Armitage).

As I've said in other recent instances, these are smart preferred walk-on offers to give, because at the very least you're seen as a possibility if/when other players from the school become major prospects down the road. Better yet, there's a chance one of them is friends with a kid on your roster down the road, etc.

Also unfortunately, another kid VT identified before most anyone else and built a big lead with, only to see that lead evaporate over time.
I actually wonder if a potentially-decreased emphasis on the Tar Heel State (temporarily as the staff tries to get its feet back under it in-state, and continues trying to become a bigger player in Texas) is going to turn out to be a bigger deal than I’d thought.
