Rivals.com Southeast recruiting Analyst Chadd Simmons informs us that College Park (Ga.) Woodward Academy 2019 running back Tahj Gary will be taking an unofficial visit to the University of South Carolina this weekend. The three-star committed to Virginia Tech about a month ago.
Gary is a 5-8, 210-pounder who brings the boom when he's carrying the ball, and has speed to gain big yardage once he breaks through the first line of defense. He's slated to be a nice complement to fellow 2019 commit Keshawn King, who is more of a well-rounded back. The Hokies' coaching staff considers both backs must-hold prospects with the needs at the position they anticipate over the next couple years.
Fortunately, the tea leaves seem to be indicating that the Hokies aren't facing a serious threat for Gary, at least not yet. He's been to South Carolina several times throughout the recruiting process already, and despite having taken those visits, picked the Hokies over the Gamecocks in October. If there's something to see in Columbia, he's already seen it: there's not much opportunity to experience something new that completely changes his mind about the program or school.
That said, Will Muschamp's staff isn't going to simply sit back and host a VT commit without making an earnest effort to sway him away from his current pledge. Stay tuned to HokieHaven.com for updates on just how successful that effort is.
