Virginia Tech hosted Norcom (Va.) Portsmouth 2020 defensive end Antwaun Powell-Ryland over the weekend, and things went very well. The 6-3, 230-pounder isn't ready to make a college commitment yet, but there's a chance the time comes reasonably soon.

North Carolina and Oklahoma are in the rearview mirror as far as official visits go, and he's wrapping up a trip to Florida tomorrow before heading almost immediately to Michigan for the final pair of his five trips. Getting all five officials completed before the summer Dead Period is not a coincidence, and while he doesn't have a decision timeline set in stone, the assumption that he'd like to get it over with is a safe one.

The Hokies were among the first bigtime programs to join his offer sheet, and he's been to Blacksburg more than any other campus among his finalists. Virginia Tech solidified its position over the weekend, but it's also fair to say this isn't a done deal.

Michigan has long been the other prime contender, so his weekend trip to Ann Arbor could help sort through the final stages of the process in a big way. North Carolina and Oklahoma are far from eliminated, but that neither rocketed to the top of the list after their respective chances to host him is a good sign for the presumed favorites (as well as Florida, which still has the opportunity over the next couple days to really burst down that door - with VT thinking that's more likely than Michigan wrapping him up).

As things stand now, there's plenty of reason to expect the Hokies still win out, barring a change sparked by the final official visits. The matter of when he'll be ready to make the call between his finalists could be revealed shortly after he sees all of them.
