Quite honestly, from a societal perspective it's probably the right thing to do. But to do it without providing any sort of alternative for student-athletes and their families (and to a lesser extent, college coaches) over it, while refusing to adjust signing deadlines and the like... well, the NCAA has always been considered (credibly so, in my opinion) anti-student-athlete, and doing things that harm student athletes without putting something on the other side of the scale to help them out isn't going to change that.

The "touch base with" process - rather than saying "this guy is at the top of our board so we will pursue him until he commits elsewhere, then we will begin pursuing the No. 2 guy on the board until he commits elsewhere, then we will finally move on to No. 3..." and so on, has been one of the problems in recent classes. Even if they don't want these guys - or want them right now - keeping interest up is always smart.
