However, I've seen tons of press conferences by dead-man-walking head coaches. Fuente definitely gave one Saturday (I actually think he'll apologize for it when we have the chance to talk to him today - his responses bordered on inappropriate at times). In a situation where the AD almost can't afford to make a change if he wanted to, that's... a really troubling sign.

I would imagine nothing that plays out with this case will affect his long-term status with the football program, which is that he ain't comin' back.

Quite honestly, from a societal perspective it's probably the right thing to do. But to do it without providing any sort of alternative for student-athletes and their families (and to a lesser extent, college coaches) over it, while refusing to adjust signing deadlines and the like... well, the NCAA has always been considered (credibly so, in my opinion) anti-student-athlete, and doing things that harm student athletes without putting something on the other side of the scale to help them out isn't going to change that.
