Hokies top 10 for Texas DB

Hunter Washington:

Hunter Washington down to ten, including Hokies

They've done a good job staying involved here, but given he visited Blacksburg before he even had any other Power-5 offers, I've been a little disappointed in the ability to gain separation as the No. 1 overall school for him (instead the Hokies have sort of settled back into the pack). The early identification remains a strength of this staff, and staying in the mix has never been a problem. But sealing the deal (or at least establishing themselves as the top program in some of these recruitments) has to be more consistent.

Carter Whitt will remain a 2021 prospect

He tells our Corey Evans:

Carter Whitt to remain a 2021 prospect

In all honesty, this is a (very) positive change for Virginia Tech. While Mike Young would certainly have accepted his pledge no matter the class, you have Wabissa Bede, Jalen Cone, and Joe Bamisile already on next year's roster at the position. Bede's graduation (and of course Bamisile's versatility) certainly opens up hypothetical playing time and makes the Hokies much more appealing in 2021-22 than 2020-21.

Hokies miss the final six for Brandon Campbell

Sort of a bummer after VT was the unquestioned favorite relatively early in this one:

That said, this program is still not in position to stay on top for guys (without obvious connections, at least - whether geography or otherwise) once a lot of the top recruiters in the country enter the mix. Certainly there are times when they'll be able to do it (Dematrius Davis), but until the program gets it done on the field, this is why they have to continue casting such a wide net, and being very early with their evaluations - they've been outstanding with those evaluations, but have to build a lead in those instances, because other programs have more in the tank to accelerate right on by if the lead isn't big enough.

Fortunately on Campbell, the staff saw what the deal was going to be pretty early and managed to pivot to other top targets, so they didn't waste a ton of resources on him.
