Hokies outside the top 6 for Rivals100 OL

In the 2021 class:

The risk of trying to recruit far from home. You'll get three-stars and some four-stars (and some of those will be gems, as well), but to make the effort worthwhile, you have to get some top prospects, too. It's paid off in the form of Dematrius Davis, but VT at least needs to make some of these finalists lists - even if it's just as more of an afterthought - to really be a player in Houston.

New 2021 hoops offer

New Virginia Tech basketball offer: Peyton Daniels

Hokies starting to focus on the junior class, with a big (top target right now: Juco DeAndre Pinckney) the only remaining need in 2020 - and the way John Ojiako is developing on a little quicker timeline than expected, they could maaaaybe - though not preferably - be done in 2020 at this point.

2021 could be a pretty special class if the on-court product remains up to snuff. I never really had problems with the way the previous coaching staff recruited (and indeed, they had pretty good results), but I've been pleasantly surprised to see this group - particularly Christian Webster - looking like a pretty big upgrade at this early stage.

Hokies beat VMI

Here's today’s AP story:

Cattoor leads Hokies past VMI

As I’ve said a couple times in the recent past, struggling is fine if you win, but there isn’t a lot of correctable action obvious to turn these into the margins of victory they should be. There’s just been a general... playing fine but not well enough.

Would have loved to see the Hokies playing in a “wow, but can they get it done against better teams” way, not a “they better snap out of it before they face better teams” way.

One to watch in January...

After DJ Lundy asked me to post that he would be signing today at 2pm Wednesday afternoon, he had a talk with his coach and family, and he has decided to wait and sign in February.

I was told he spoke with Vanderbilt and West Virginia coaches Wednesday night as well after that news of an early signing came out. Maybe he talked to VT too, but I have not heard that.

He announces himself late last night that he would wait.

Now, as of today, Vanderbilt is the leader. I was hearing a lot of talk about him signing with Vanderbilt today IF he had signed.

He is now planning to take official visits to Virginia Tech and West Virginia in January.

Other schools are likely to come in, so we will see how this plays out. Vanderbilt goes into this final six weeks or so as the favorite for me.
