Not a massive visit weekend (the staff tried to put that together for camp last week), but a few important ones - including a couple who aren't far off from decisions with the Hokies in decent shape:
Not usually a big deal - especially for a 2021 kid - but I’d thought VT might be able to make a serious impact here. Vance Vice actually taught Berrong’s dad in middle school(!!) back in the day.
Given the low point it started from (Bede and Nolley out the door, losing an entire recruiting class with not a ton of guys available around the country to replace them), it's hard to have expected anything better - unless he can convince Blackshear to stay, of course:
There will still be significant growing pains - that's the simple result of losing three senior leaders and an NBA lottery pick at a school that hasn't traditionally landed the big fish in recruiting - but you can see that the groundwork is being laid.
Other schools (including Clemson) have been trying to convince the VT commit to visit... Hokies offering little bro - who happens to be the fastest eighth-grader in the country - is a smart idea.
With the 2020 class handled (pending a second passer in the class being possible depending on how things shake out in terms of need by signing day), and groundwork lain for the 2021 class, the staff is looking to the future:
Extremely slim chance that VT pulls a kid out of Washington (especially a kid who can have any offer he wants). However, the WR position is one that the the coaching staff should have a lot of sway with in short order:
He could theoretically take another official to VT thanks to the NCAA rule change a couple years back, but every impression is that Buzz, not Blacksburg, was the factor he was most interested in.
