Last time the Hokies played a game in which both teams were ranked?

We were briefly ranked after the OSU game, but dropped out shortly after. I don't believe we were ranked going into the Bama game and if we were ranked at any point that year we were surely out before we upset Miami. Is this week the first time we've seen a game between two ranked teams since the dreaded Sugar Bowl, which saw the ridiculous fake punt with 4-6 missed calls on one play, the magical grab by Danny Coale that got overturned, and countless unlucky moments where the ball just didn't bounce our way? Hopefully games between ranked teams becomes a normal occurrence in Blacksburg again. We need a big W against UNC to kick it off.

Also for Tim, as a Michigan guy do you think Michigan deserved that win in 2011? I know it's probably been addressed but I ask all my Michigan buddies this question.

VT still sitting outside the rankings

No. 30, and without much shakeup in the back half of the poll, no surprise they didn't move up more. Tennessee's comeback against Florida really helps in that department though - as long as the Vols look legit (jury's out on whether that will happen), the loss in Bristol won't be an anchor.

Even without playing this coming week, VT may manage to crack the poll if a few results go their way.

Poll Watching

10 of the Top 25 in last week's AP poll suffered defeat yesterday. At least 6 of those 10 will almost certainly drop out of the Top 25 when the new poll results are released today. It will be interesting to see if VT is able to gain one of the "open" Top 25 slots now up for grabs. Working against VT is the fact that they were "idle" over the weekend. Pollsters tend to be very reactionary so look for teams that had a degree of "visibility" yesterday...such as UNC, Cal, Colorado, etc to move ahead of VT and into the rankings. The old adage "out of sight, out of mind" may work against the Hokies...but there is at least a reasonable chance that VT sneaks into the rankings.
