Yesterday, junior college all-purpose back Earnest Crownover III noted that he
has a Virginia Tech visit coming up soon, and after touching base with both the prospect and sources in Blacksburg, I can confirm that he's an active Hokie target. It's likely an official visit happens for the Nov. 9 Wake Forest game.
Originally
a two-star prospect out of Grandview (Texas) High, Crownover signed with Army, but went the Juco route after wanting something else out of his college football career (he obviously wouldn't say it, but "compulsory military service" is not something that a lot of guys are looking for).
While he doesn't hold an offer yet, the assumption is that he'd pick one up upon visiting campus... which may signal a bit of a shift in the coaching staff's thinking to close out the 2020 class. Do they believe they'll hold onto CJ Beasley (will they perhaps even cut him loose for what they see as a talent upgrade, after he didn't help reel in higher-ranked teammate KeAndre Lambert? I wouldn't go
so far, but there has been some serious discussion about where exactly he fits into the picture, including no settled position in the eyes of the staff just yet)?
Even though most of the 2020 class has been settled for a while, there are still some moving pieces, and the staff is trying to put together the best possible group. That's obviously no with the upside we may have hoped for before the season, but finding he configuration that's the best of who's available is the aim.
