No front page story because this one smells extremely fishy. For example, from the newspaper in his hometown of Bakersfield, Calif.:

There's no record on MaxPreps of his having played for Ridgeview since his senior year of 2016(!), and there's no record on the Missouri Southern site of his having played the two years there that he claims. He tried to transfer to Penn State as a walk-on last offseason ("previously attending Penn State") but never successfully did so. He didn't play for either Valdosta State or Purdue, instead ending up at West Liberty University in West Virginia (outside Pittsburgh). He was a D2 All-American this season, but I have a hard time believing that he has seventh-year eligibility without any firm documentation of his path through college football - particularly since it seems there's been some deception or misleading information dished out along the way.

I have confirmed with a source within the Hokies program that he was verbally offered a spot in the program, but I suspect it was not a staffer with enough authority to give out said opportunity, and I'd be a little surprised (honestly: disappointed in a recruiting operation that otherwise seems much more competent than the group that was here before) if anything serious developed here.

Tim...I noticed prior to Fitzgerald's commitment that VT's "Total Team Points" stood at 1450. After Fitzgerald's commitment, our "Total Team Points" updated to 1500. But after the Wimbush commitment yesterday, our "Total Team Points" remained at 1500. Does a 2 star commitment not yield any additional points at all to a team's total???

How is this kid not at least a 3 star? Big, fast (runs away from secondary), versatile (lines up at multiple positions), plays for one of the historically better programs in NOVA. Offer list looks like a 2 star, film looks like a 3/4 star.

For what it's worth, the coaching staff had largely not bothered to continue recruiting him, since there wasn't much to gain in putting pressure on him (and they felt that there really wasn't anything they could do to make him want to stay home).
