His ranking sort of had a ceiling because he's very much a guard (though VT plans to try him at tackle) and he's not a massive 330-pounder in there like the top guys at that position, but his potential is great. Honestly think he'd have been a Rivals100 player if evaluated at defensive tackle, too.

He should visit soon (not this weekend, unless plans change), which would really set the stage for the Hokies' being a serious option:

VT in the top 12 for Derrell Bailey Jr.

An Auburn offer would make it tough for any other school to land him, though. The longer the Tigers don't offer, the better for the current favorites.

The staff likes his frame to keep growing... they told him he would have a shot to try his hand at quarterback should he pick Virginia Tech, but the thought is that he'd be a tight end (or depending on growth, even offensive lineman) in the long run.

...is scheduled to happen over the next couple days. Hokies haven't offered, but if they do, the Maryland native could very well end up as a late commitment in the class (remember, the Hokies didn't get an LOI from Jahad Carter, and they've also lost Bryce Watts from the current roster over the past week).

I know the VT staff is confident (and right now, there's reason to be), but they are on basically every kid that they want, so there's a little more reading into the situation that has to be done. Based on what those from his end of things have told me he's most looking for, though, I like where the Hokies stand.
