VT Students Leaving Football Games

It's a shame that our VT students can't stay and support their Hokie Football team. By halftime the end zone seats were half empty and by the third quarter darn near empty. Thank the Hokie Heavens for the Cadets, they always stay and support. I honestly believe the students come to jump and then leave. I sure hope they don't embarrass the Hokie Nation on game day by leaving as they have done for both Delaware and ODU.

Tunnel Talk EXTRA: Key visitors for ODU

Working back a little bit on recruiting before going forward to the huge Clemson visit weekend. Plenty of kids (though few high-profile ones) made it to Blacksburg last weekend. Here are some of the key guys that were indeed there - but keep in mind this list is not comprehensive:

Turner made his first visit of the season, and unfortunately, he's going to have a lot more opportunities: his high school has ended due to a shoulder injury he wants to rehab.

Boykin is committed to Maryland, and he's likely to stay that way. This trip was more to see former teammate Sean Savoy in action. Getting him on campus can't be a bad thing if VT tries to re-dedicate their pursuit down the road, though.

2019 Commit

Carter wasn't a Hokie commit when he headed to Blacksburg, but was in the 2019 recruiting class by the time he left. The Versatile prospect could be a wide receiver or defensive back at the next level.

Jackson was the headliner of the visit group (aside from the commits). A Rivals250 prospect in the Class of 2019, he is gong to be a top target for the Hokies. Getting him onto campus for a mediocre non-conference opponent can be considered a major win.

Skinner has visited multiple times in the past, and depending on how the 2018 linebacker class finishes up - and how the Hokies begin 2019 - he could be an offer candidate down the road.

Johnson has made multiple past visits to Blacksburg, and obviously attend one of the state's powerhouse high school programs. With an early VT offer, he should be a good one.

Tre Turner's high school career is over

This means he won't move up in the rankings, but in the grand scheme of things, it's not half-bad for VT:

He gets to rehab the shoulder now (instead of playing through pain and having to play catch-up when he arrives in January), and can focus on preparing for the next level instead of his high school team. Sucks for the kid, sucks for the high school team, but the only serious impact on VT is that it likely prevents him from moving up the rankings.

The latest from Kalon Gervin

The date of Kalon Gervin's official visit to Virginia Tech is getting difficult to pin down. When I spoke with him tonight he was pretty sure Blacksburg would be his next official visit destination, but said the exact date was not for sure. We have Oct. 20 down, and that still seems as good a date as any, but according to Kalon that's not set in stone.

My take is it doesn't really matter when he takes it from this point going forward, and that the Hokies are not one of his early visits is probably good for them. I still like their chances in this battle. More on Gervin, including an in-depth recap of his official visit to Oklahoma this past weekend, is linked below:
