There are some definite question marks (some of which are partially explained by the team around him), but it's pretty clear he's an upgrade at PG either way.
No surprise for Wittke after his limited playing time in the Spring game - he didn't feel like he was third on the depth chart. Does mean VT will be thin at QB this year, though obviously the staff has long planned to bring in two QBs (and this might make it easier for both of those guys to be top-notch).

Mitchell only saw action in the bowl game, and got just two carries over the weekend, too. I thought he might stick it out because RB obviously has more reps to go around (since your top guy doesn't get every competitive snap that he's available), but with walk-on PJ Prioleau and freshman Tyler Mason among those getting more time... likely saw the writing on the wall, as well.
I would consider this “good attrition:” a guy who will harbor no bad feelings for the coaches or program, but simply realized he wasn’t up to the level (and may be more years - if ever - away than he’d hoped):
