For Richmond Trinity Episcopal 2025 QB Jack Callaghan.

It's sort of a weird one for me, since I'm usually overly cautious on these. The reason it's a little more risky is because accepting a commitment would be a little more risky for the staff. Obviously they already have a quarterback in the fold in Kelden Ryan, and they also in strong pursuit of DMV-area four-star Malik Washington (who, in my eyes and in the eyes of the rankings, is by far he most talented of the bunch).
I've been told from people close to Callaghan, though, that he plans to commit within the next couple days (possibly as soon as today), if he can. For the reasons I pointed out above, "if he can" may not be a shoo-in from the perspective of the staff. I have asked around with VT sources and have gotten vague and/or conflicting answers as to whether Callaghan is a take at this stage.
In the long run, the staff clearly wants two quarterbacks in the class at this point. That can change if there are changes to the roster - a look at how QB reps were split on Saturday may indicate that the current state of the roster is not permanent, even before getting into the realistic possibility of Kyron Drones heading to the NFL after the 2024 season. Landing two guys who both want to be in a class, and don't mind being
together is a delicate balance. It's a little less complicated in the Portal Era, because dudes known they can head to a different power-conference team to compete for a starting spot if they don't win out at their first stop, and because if you don't have the developed death through recruiting, you can be the beneficiary of one of those transfers.
Realistically, you tend to either have a second QB who's way down in the rankings (a la Callaghan in comparison to Ryan/Washington), or two good players with the higher-regarded of the two joining much later (a la Pop Watson joining Dylan Wittke late in the 2023 class). Should Callaghan end up following through this week, the balancing act becomes a little more complicated if the staff wants to leave the door open for Washington - though if they're happy with the prospect of a Ryan/Callaghan class, they could be set. (A complicating factor, of course, being VT's mixed history of holding onto commits from Texas, though quarterbacks are always in a bit of a category on their own).
