***INsider: Dax Hollifield On VT Visit***

Guys, I talked to Shelby (NC) 2018 linebacker Dax Hollifield about an hour ago. He and his family had just left VT, where they had spent all day on a visit and were eating at the Cookout in Blacksburg.

Hollifield said this was his fifth visit to VT. He went for camp last year, for two games last fall and for junior day Feb. 6. But for this trip, Hollifield told me, "This has probably been my favorite trip of any I’ve taken." That's EXCELLENT news. Hollifield did just come off the visit, so keep in mind he was pumped coming off it, but he was as high on VT as any kid I've talked to in months about the Hokies.

Hollifield told me his dad graduated from Wake Forest, but that VT is "My dad’s favorite school. He likes that more than any place." Hollifield said today, he talked at length with coach Justin Fuente and defensive coordinator Bud Foster and called Foster "the best defensive coordinator in college football." What really did it today, though, is Hollifield said the staff explained to him how bad they needed linebackers and how Andrew Motuapuaka specifically will be gone by the time Hollifield got there. So that's obviously the role the Hokies see for Hollifield. Special teams coordinator James Shibest is Hollifield's primary recruiter.

To this point, Hollifield has offers from VT, North Carolina, Clemson, NC State, Duke and Wake Forest. But right now, he told me, "UNC, Wake and VT are my threee favorites, but right now, I like VT and UNC. They’re needing linebackers. I wanna go somewhere I’m needed."

It sounded like, when I talked to him, that Hollifield could decide soon, but when I asked him if he'd thought about it, he told me he doesn't plan on announcing any time soon. "Unless I’m positive, I’m not going to," Hollifield said. "A lot can happen and a lot already has happened. I thought Coach Beamer was gonna stay." But I still think the Hokies are the clear favorite here, with UNC right behind. Don't expect a commitment soon, though, as he still plans to visit Georgia next, followed by a few others.

Can't watch Spring Game??

So I've read reports that the Spring Game isn't even going to be streamed. I've been okay with Fuente shutting out the media during the practices, but I mean.. This is the spring game. Players left, new QB, new coach, new playbook, new 11 on each side of the ball... And I can't watch it cuz I can't make it to Blacksburg this weekend. I'm sure I'm not the only one. I'm really hoping this ends up streaming on some website. Please somebody give me some good news. Otherwise this is realllllyyy something I just can't get behind. I'm sure Fuente thinks he's doing it for the right reasons but there's a lot of Hokies all over the country and all over the world. Not very cool to keep us from watching the Hokies.

NCAA Final Four's Blackeyes

The NCAA leader emphasized that Syracuse had served its time and done everything the infractions committee had asked it to do. He also stressed that the university’s players "had nothing whatsoever to do with those sanctions," and that they should "be allowed to play."

That argument did not sit well with Jay Bilas, an ESPN analyst and NCAA critic, who suggested that it reflected an inconsistency in the NCAA’s application of its rules.

"So, UConn players, Louisville players, SMU players, and so many others," he wrote on Twitter, "you’re innocent, too, but can pound sand."

***INsider: Rivals QB Challenge**

Jason and I are coming to you live from the QB Challenge at RCS: Atlanta.

A few Virginia Tech targets participated today, including John Foreback, Dylan Hopkins, Trevor Lawerence, Shon Mitchell, and Sam Howell. Gunnar Holmberg and recent offer DeJuan Ellis were late arrivals to the Rivals QB challenge.

Ellis, an in-state guy for the Hokies, flew down for Sunday's RCS QB Challenge. He was offered by the Hokies offered just a few days ago. Ellis had a pretty good day today, but needs to work on his accuracy. He's a very mobile quarterback with a good arm. It's easy to see the appeal of such a quarterback, but he wasn't the most accurate of the group today. He definitely has a lot of athleticism, something that fits the kind of offense Virginia Tech head coach Justin Fuente looks for.

We'll have more info coming, but after talking with Dylan Hopkins, he really likes the Hokies. His dad played for the Hokies and was a part of former coach Beamer's first class. He's been in some contact with the coaches and has been told that they want to see him throw live in the near future. He also plans on going up to visit for the spring game in late April. He's a guy that could get a preferred walk-on spot at Virginia Tech, unless he develops more in the near future. He's listed at 6', but looked a little shorter than that in person.

The Hokies probably don't have much of a chance with Sam Howell. He was being recruited by former RB coach Shane Beamer, who is now at UGA. Howell's still being recruited by Shane Beamer there. He also took recent visits to NC State and UNC. He did have a good day today, finishing 5th in the competition.

After talking with Holmberg, he seemed really high on both Duke and Wake Forest. He does want to visit Virginia Tech this summer, but hasn't been in much contact with the new coaching staff. He hasn't been to Blacksburg since the coaching changes. But we did get some information from his mother about where he will end up. His father had a brain tumor and the whole family moved to Raleigh so his father could be treated at the Duke hospital. Sadly, his father passed away a few years ago, but Holmberg still really like Duke. He was recently offered by them this past Wednesday, and quite honestly, I'd be surprised if he went anywhere else because of his history and family ties to Duke.

One of the top QB's in the 2018 class is Lawerence, who comes from Cartersville, Ga. Virginia Tech offered him awhile back, but it was by former offensive coordinator Scot Leoffler. The new staff hasn't really been in contact with him. He told us his top 3, which was Georgia, Clemson, and Tennessee. It's looking like he will go to Clemson, though.

One guy that really stood out to me was Trad Beatty. He had great form on his throws. He was upright, but not too stiff when passing the ball. Beatty also had good size. He was pretty accurate in the competition.

Elevate 2Days Future

congratulations to Coach Rodney Taylor. Saturday was the kickoff to the Elite AAU Spring Football league on the Virginia Peninsula. The program is being offered under Elevate 2Days Future, a 501(C)3 entity administered by Tyrod Taylor's Foundation.

Tyrod, MV1 and Antoine Bethea were there to work with over 250 kids and talk with them about football and life skills.

There will be four weekends of 7 on 7 games, followed by a couple of 11 on 11 all star games of full tackle football.

I am honored to have been given the opportunity to work with Rodney and Tyrod and help make this dream a reality.

Congratulations to Rodney, Trina and Tyrod.

HELLO HOKIE, GOODBYE HOKIE

On 2/23/2016 a new Hokie was welcomed into this world. He was 7lbs 9 oz. Thirty min after he was born something didn't seem right with his breathing. He was taken from us and taken to a special room and was given oxygen to help him breath. This hospital couldn't treat his condition so he was transported to the NICU at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was diagnosed with life threatening Pulmonary Hypertension. They was on the verge of flying him to Wake Forest. He made a turn for the better and was not transported from Roanoke. We spent 15 days in the NICU where he went from a c-pap, to a ventilator in which he was on and sedated for about 8 days. My wife and I was staying at the Ronald McDonald house and spending about 16 hours a day at the hospital. In the mean time my Dad was getting the cat in and out of the garage at my house while we was gone. I later found out that he would go back to my sons crib and pray over his crib twice a day. The day we was discharged from the hospital the doctor told us, 25 years in this unit she never seen a child as sick as mine that got better as fast as he did.

On 4/2/2016 my DAD passed away from a devastating stroke. He was taken to Radford was going to be flown to Wake Forest but couldn't because of bad weather so he was taken to Wake Forest by ambulance. The doctors said that if he survived he would be unable to speak, walk, or understand language. I found out after my father's passing from my step mom that every night after he visited my son in the NICU that he would pray for the lord to take him and spare his grandsons life. My son got better remarkable fast and my dad was taken from us so suddenly.

Dad had not missed a home VT Football game for 42 seasons and talked about how excited he was to see how the team would look, and play under Justin Fuente. He started taking me to the games when I was 5 years old and turned me into the die hard VT football fan I am today. With great sadness I do not know how on earth I will be able to attend a home VT football game without my DAD.... I know he would want me to go and cheer loud and proud, just like we have in the past together. We have looked at this board for the last 10 years just about daily. We just didn't post a lot of messages. I just wanted to share this with my fellow Hokie Fans. Keep my family in your prayers. Thank You!!

Fuente Meets With VT Students

Head Coach Justin Fuente met with Virginia Tech's Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity Sunday night.

Fuente became a brother of Lambda Chi Alpha when attending Oklahoma University. The president of VT's chapter reached out to the alum. He informed me that Fuente was more than happy to meet with them.

Fuente gave a speech to the members of Lambda Chi Alpha on brotherhood and leadership and answered any questions that the brothers had. At the end, Fuente and the fraternity signed a flag, in addition to taking pictures. The president said it went fantastic and that the members responding very well to Fuente.
