***INsider: Coverage of VT Targets at RCS Atlanta***

Duluth, Ga. --- There were a number of VT targets in action at the 2016 Rivals Camp Series in Atlanta, including Robert Beal, Trey Blount, K.J. Britt, Robert Cooper, Tre Douglas, Verenzo Holmes, Jayden McDonald, Kyler McMichael, William Poole III, Tre Shaw, A.J. Terrell, and Tony Grey. There were quite a few Hokies' targets that didn't show up on Saturday, including Yosuf Corker, Zion Custis, Jalen Holston, Deon Jackson, and their recent offer Tadarius Patterson.

Right off the bat, I have to say that A.J. Terrell has essentially every quality you want to see in a DB: he's fast, changes direction on a dime, athletic - all the intangibles. Unfortunately for the Hokies, he's really looking in the state of Alabama.

One of Virginia Tech's targets had a slightly off day in Kyler McMichael. He has great potential - and great film - but just wasn't making the right reads in the one on one drills Saturday afternoon. He did better at the tail end of the day, when he started making the right adjustments. McMichael has four offers right now, including Virginia Tech. McMichael didn't make full use of the home-field advantage, as he currently attends Northview H.S., the host site of this weekends RCS.

K.J. Britt is a guy that has just exploded of late. He recently won MVP at another camp and won the LB MVP award today. When we talked in the morning, he said that he's received 26 offers and been averaging around 3 per day lately. He's a guy that's currently rated 3*, but look for that to change soon with how he's played. With the way he played today, it really looks like he's going to be a top 250 player. He's looking more and more like one right now.

Douglas looked pretty good in today's one on one drills. He had good instincts and was always in the play. I didn't see him get badly beat in any of the drills.

A few of the players here today were recruited by former DB coach Terrain Gray, including Robert Beal, William Poole III, A.J. Terrell, and Tony Gray. These players were all offered by former coach Gray, and the current coaching staff hasn't really kept up with them. When talking to them, none of them seemed very keen on Virginia Tech.

Two players that are high on the Hokies were Verenzo Holmes and Jayden McDonald. Both Holmes and McDonald like the direction Virginia Tech is heading and the new coaching staff. McDonald hopes to visit sometime this summer but has yet to set a definitive date.

There were a couple guys that stood out to me today that aren't being looked at by the Hokies: Henry Ruggs and Alontae Taylor. Both of these guys had great days today. They were making great reads all day and look like solid athletes. Ruggs, a WR, is in the 2017 class and Taylor, listed at an athlete, is in the 2018 class.

RIVALS APP ISSUES

Jason,
I really like the app except for a moderate glitch. After I click on a players profile from a link within a story I obviously get to the player profile page but when I click "back" instead of it directing me back to the story I'm redirected to rivals main home page. I then have to go back to click on my team & then the forum or the story. Fairly tedious. Can you pass that along to Rivals IT? I really do like the app otherwise though!

***INsider: Dorian Etheridge On VT Visit***

Guys, I just got off the phone literally 15 minutes ago with Capital (WV) three-star linebacker Dorian Etheridge. He visited VT today with his mom. I had been told the visit was gonna take place tomorrow, but Etheridge moved it up so he could attend practice today.

Etheridge last visited VT Feb. 27 for junior day, so it wasn't that long ago. This is the first time he told me he got to see the Hokies practice. He also was on hand last July for VT's final recruit camp of the summer. On this one-day trip, Etheridge told me he liked the energy that he saw in practice and liked hanging around the team.

Assistant coach Torrian Gray had been recruiting Etheridge, but he told me that defensive coordinator Bud Foster has been in contact for some time and now assistant Brian Mitchell is his primary recruiter. That makes sense, since Mitchell helped recruit Etheridge when he was at West Virginia. "They all tried to get me to commit today, but that’s every time," Etheridge said. "We always have a good time."

And as far as VT overall, I get the feeling the Hokies have climbed a bit with him. "I think they're moving forward as a program overall," Etheridge told me.

Right now, Etheridge is on his spring break, but this was the only visit he took this week. He visited South Carolina a few weeks ago and also went to West Virginia a couple of weeks ago and on Feb. 28, got an offer from Pittsburgh while on a visit there. No visits are planned right now, though he told me he'll likely be in Charlotte April 17 for the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour stop there. So I'll see him there.

VT is in great position here and that's a big reason the Hokies are pushing him to commit. But WV will be in it until the very end, along with Pittsburgh and Tennessee, where he went for a game last fall. No date set, but Etheridge said he wants to commit at the end of the summer, before his season.

Another week in the books, this one with another week of spring practice and more commitments. We go over the storylines coming out of Virginia Tech's practice, including the secrecy, the quarterback battle and the health at running back. What are our takeaways to this point? Getting another commitment, not to mention more visitors, are the Hokies on a recruiting roll? What are they doing to get there? Plus, there's a new women's basketball coach in Kenny Brooks and baseball is in dire straights.

Couple of Notes....

1. I know it was posted over on The Key Play but I've confirmed that Devin Wilson, guard on the basketball team, is practicing at wide receiver.

No word if this is a long term thing or just an experiment or what but if you listened to a basketball broadcast the announcers always mentioned how good of football player he was in high school. And VT needs receivers.

2. Jalen Christian, a former highly touted receiver from Maryland, announced today he is transferring from South Carolina to be closer to home. This one is notable because 1) again, VT needs receivers and 2) Christian grew up in Christiansburg and his mom went to VT...so there is a connection. Don't know if Blacksburg is close enough to home but worth a look.

***INsider: Tahj Capehart VT Visit***

As always, what's posted here, STAYS HERE. Don't de-value your own subscription by giving away information to others who don't pay like you do. It's also a violation of our terms of service and will result in the termination of your subscription.

Guys, I know some of you have been dying to know about Ocean Lakes (Va.) three-star wide receiver Tahj Capehart. He visited Virginia Tech yesterday and today unofficially, staying overnight.

I just got off the phone with Tahj Capehart's dad just to check on everything. The reason why I haven't done anything on Tahj, as his dad reaffirmed is because they're actually visiting Mary;and right now. It makes no sense to do a full story on Tahj yet when he's in the middle of another visit. What if he likes Maryland a lot? What if he sees something there that reminds him of something he likes better at VT? You never know.

Capehart's dad did tell me of the visit to Blacksburg, "It was ok." I honestly think he was just worn out from a long trip. Tahj was actually out getting something to eat with his mom while his dad was just hanging out at their hotel.

"We kinda liked it," Capehart's dad told me. "It wasn’t a bad visit, so that wasn’t a bad thing. We’re just collecting, basically seeing what we wanna do. Right now, we’re just going through the recruiting process. Later on we'll see what we’re gonna do."

Capehart's dad told me their plan is to stay most of the day tomorrow at Maryland and head home. They're gonna call me when they leave, so I'll talk to Tahj then for a full story.

Guys, I'm never withholding info like this from you. You all should know me better than that by now. But I'm also not bothering these people unless something like a commitment has happened, which it hasn't. I know Tahj and his family and they're very nice people. They're tired from a long couple of days, with another big day tomorrow, during Tahj's spring break. I promise I will have a full INsider post on both visits tomorrow.

***INsider: Rivals100 Defender Talks VT Visit***

As always, what's posted here, STAYS HERE. Don't de-value your own subscription by giving away information to others who don't pay like you do. It's also a violation of our terms of service and will result in the termination of your subscription.

Guys, as you saw on my list of visitors on Saturday and from the reports of our friend Adam Friedman, Rivals100 cornerback Jermani Brown visited VT Saturday. Brown just moved in January to Midlothian (Va.) from Calabasas, Calif. He's also been committed to Arizona State since November.

First off, I asked Brown why he and his family moved. He told me that his mom got a job as the vice president of a hospital in Richmond. He told me the move has been tough, but he feels like he's adjusting well. He's originally from Missouri, but spent the past 10 years in California. He doesn't really remember anything about Missouri. Brown had never been to Virginia before he made the move and didn't get to see it before they moved.

Brown told me he remains committed to Arizona State and has stayed in touch with the staff there. They've told him they'll be visiting at the first chance they get, including for one of his games.

That said, Brown is still open. He visited Virginia a few weeks ago and on Saturday, made his first trip to VT. He told me the trip started off "slow" at first, but he liked watching practice. The one thing that really stuck with him is assistant coach Brian Mitchell. Brown didn't have a ton to say about the visit, but really seemed to like Mitchell and loves that he played in the NFL. He told me he wants to pick his brain some more and talk more football, so that's a huge plus for the Hokies.

The UVA visit seems to also have gone well. Brown said he likes Bronco Mendenhall and the staff and likes what they're about. As Brown gets more adjusted to the east coast, it seems like he's opening up to a few more schools. He told me he wants to get to West Virginia soon. And he's not sure if he'll attend the Charlotte stop April 17 of the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour. Brown said he might visit Nebraska April 16 for the spring game there.

My guess is that Arizona State commitment doesn't stick. But outside of that, it's tough to tell where he's leaning, as this is like a whole new experience on this side of the country for him.

Practice 3/29

Hey guys! So Kelly and I made it to practice today and there are a few noteworthy points that were picked up:

-- Sophomore Mook Reynolds is practicing at both nickel and safety. According to Reynolds, the goal is to have him play at safety once senior Chuck Clark.
-- When asked about the quarterback situation, head coach Justin Fuente is staying pretty quiet about. Other offensive players that were at pre-practice interviews were redshirt sophomore Chris Durkin and redshirt junior Bucky Hodges, noted that the competition was pretty even, but it was too early to tell who would take the No. 1 spot.
-- According to redshirt sophomore Travon McMillian, sophomore Shai McKenzie is the most eager to get back out there, as well as in better shape than he was before.
-- All the players emphasized how practice in general is a lot faster paced than last year's spring practice.

There will be more to come from Kelly and I about today's practice here soon. Check out our stories for more updates on Hokie football!

Wrestling Coach Kevin Dresser Interview

Hey everyone, I'm interviewing wrestling coach head coach Kevin Dresser next Tuesday. As you probably know, wrestling had its best best-ever finish in program history (#4 at the NCAA's), and had six all-americans this season. Dresser was also named ACC coach of the year for the fourth-consecutive year. The fourth-place finish for the Hokies was, again, their fourth consecutive top-10 finish.

I'd like to see if you all would like to post some questions here that I can ask coach for you.
