Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne 2021 athlete/linebacker Anthony Beavers will be making his college commitment this afternoon, at 2:00 p.m. Pacific (5:00 here on the East Coast).
While Virginia Tech was among his listed finalists - and he'd scheduled a return trip to Blacksburg for a game in September - it's not going to be the Hokies, barring a last-minute change of heart. In fact, it's not likely to be Arizona State, Florida State, Florida A&M, or Michigan State (the other four "finalists") either. All indications are that the four-star will be following in the footsteps of a number of other past prospects from his high school, and selecting USC.
This is a kid who's
already made two past commitments to Oregon, so it's not like that's necessarily the end of his recruitment. In fact, the sooner life returns to normalcy around the globe (namely with the end of the emergency Dead Period, though there are obviously much more serious things impacted by coronavirus), the more likely it is that he still follows through on a game visit this Fall.

However, at this point, you're likely to see the coaching staff shifting its focus - while keeping a player with a "never
really committed, even when he's committed" reputation on the backburner - for the time being.
