A team we beat is National Champian. Oh the irony!

This pretty much happens every year (the National Champion loses to someone during the season). The only difference is that it is rare for a 6 loss team to beat the eventually National Champion.

Need to erect a large billboard on both sides of Blacksburg:

MILITARY BOWL CHAMPIONS 35 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP GAME WINNERS 21

HR, you should take a road trip to Columbus and visit the first ever real National Championship trophy.......Urban 1.....Saban 0!!!!!!

Good idea, but by the time I get there, they will probably have to return it to NCAA for some illegal tattoos.

In my opinion, it's very DESCRIPTIVE regarding our Offense, perfect example

1. When you have a solid D, and for the most part, Virginia Tech year in and year out has spectacular defenses, then.....when you have a solid D, you are going to be in most games and have a chance to win.

2. When you have a poor offense, you are also.......going to be in most games and have a chance to lose.

The Ohio State Win and the Wake Forest loss are perfect examples of Virginia Tech's overall description of its 2014 or modern day program. Our offenses and defenses are at completely different ends. One at one end of the spectrum and the other at the other end. You always get 3 or so losses per year with poor offenses. You always get 6 or so wins per year with great defenses. The difference with a solid offense is what happens in those other games in which your D wins you at least six of them. That's Ohio State this year with a 9th ranked Total Offense in America, not 99th or 100th like Virginia Tech, lol, but 9th. Their D ranked around 20th in America this year....finished 19th and VT was right there at 21st. The difference...........OFFENSE and this difference can account for one team barely making a bowl and the other team playing for a national championship in a four team playoff, and of course in this case, Ohio State actually winning it.

No argument from me except that on that day in September we clicked on O, especially on 3rd downs.

I like Wake Forest except when they play VT. Their win over VT set college football back 50 years. We should have beaten WF by at least 42 points, probably more. But we do not put enough emphasis on offense.

I'm ready for the 1965 season. You ready?

In a way football was better in 65. ESPN had yet to ruin it, not to mention money hungry conferences. You simply played football.

Virginia Tech should be the team everyone wants to play because nearly all of the national champs in the past decade has played us! It's uncanny how we played LSU, Auburn, FSU, USC, Alabama, and OSU within a year or two of them winning a national title. Maybe Notre Dame will finally get one soon. lol That being said, hopefully we can be the hunted instead of the hunter for a change.

Was our O really clicking against OSU? Numbers say.....it was horrible

VT has 324 yards of Total Offense. Statistically, this ranks 116th in America if we average 324 per game all season.
VT had 125 yards of Rush Offense. Statistically...this ranks 105th in America if we average that all season.
VT had 199 yards of Pass Offense. Statistically...this ranks 88th in America if we average that all season.

Overall, our offense wasn't mediocre against Ohio State. It was actually......horrible. In our eyes, we are programmed to give it a pass and somehow, we make it look good in our own minds (want to believe it is true) when we get a win for the game, even though, our D won the game and the O played horrible. This was the case with OSU. 9 for 17 on 3rd downs was solid and very good, no question, but as a whole, we averaged outside 100th in America in 2 of the 3 major categories above against Ohio State and passing was not far off from being near 100th.

Difference in the game....The nations 9th ranked offense in Ohio State (finished 9th in America) COULD NOT MOVE THE FOOTBALL, and finished with its season worst, 324 total yards which would give them an average of 116th in Total O in America, if they put up 324 per game all season. Of course, they put up much more and had a top 10 total O. Our 3rd down conversion percentage did matter because it did give our defense the rest it needed.

Talk about silly statistics! OK, the Stinespring-led VT offense (never mind that Stiney hasn't been the OC in years. If he in Roanoke or Abington, that means he is running the offense) is beyond horrible. Let us just say, using your logic, that they are the worst defense in the nation. That is ranked 125th.

Of course, if every one played a schedule that consisted of 13 games against a team whose total defense was ranked 19th in the nation, instead of having their own share of defensive cupcakes, their numbers would also be much worse, to include:

Opponent-------------------------Yards Gained

Kent..................................................126
Maryland...........................................310
Penn State.......................................245
Illinois................................................243
Minnesota........................................303
Wisconsin........................................258

There is six right there. Let us subtract six from 125th and we get the 119th ranked offense, OK?

Now add to this the number of P5 conference teams that had worse offenses than VT:

Minnesota
Northwestern
Purdue
Maryland
Texas
Penn State
Michigan
Syracuse
Kansas
Vandy

There are ten P5 conference teams with worse offenses than VT. This improves VT's offense to 109th in the nation.

Add to that every mid-major that AVERAGED less that 454 yards/game (the number of yards VT gained against mid-major competition), and that would add:

Northern Illinois
Buffalo
Western Michigan
Bowling Green
UAB
Middle Tennessee
Memphis
UMass
Mew Mexico State
Navy
Air Forece
Idaho
La-Lafayette
New Mexico
Rice
Central Michigan
Nevada
San Jose State
San Diego State
UNLV
Wyoming
Utah State
South Alabama
Miami (OH)
Georgia State
Akron
Ohio
Ball State
Southern Miss
Hawaii
UCF
Troy
FAU
Army
UTEP
La-Monroe
Tulane
North Texas
Kent State
Temple
USF
UTSA
FIU
Eastern Michigan
UConn
SMU

There are 46 teams who did worse against their largely mid-major competition than VT did against mid-majors. Consequently, this improves VT to 63d in the nation -- middle of the pack.

See how silly that statistical snapshot you gave VT sounds? Everyone here knows VT's offense is hideous, but you seem to make it sould like it is even more hideous than it actually was. We all know why...
