Today: UVA spring "practice" attendance 5-7k. VT 45k

I smell a rat with that transfer. His odds of a bowl game were better at ECU. All these dummys go to Charlottesville and never go to a bowl game. That's hard to do with 42 bowl games out there. But they do not deserve to ever go to a bowl game.
Welcome back....did you visit the biggest cheating school in the country? Bama Sucks!!!

I recall hearing how the Great Al Groh was going to take boo hoos to the promise land. Same with London. Now I am hearing same hogwash about the guy from BYU.

Bowl games are automatic if you can win 6 measly games a season. To get into NCAA tournament you have to win conference tournament of be at mercy of selection committee, which is crooked.

I expect to be pummeled for this but I think the last two or three years UVA had had as good or better talent as us. They had poorer coaching. Ours was nothing to write home about(particularly on offense) but on D we were better.

Maybe the NCAA should reconsider bowl eligibility. Now you must win 6 to get in so if you're 6-6 going into a bowl and you loose, you now have a losing season. The bowl entry number should be 7 wins instead of six, that way all bowl teams playing are guaranteed at least a winning season. Just food for thought, and I know...UVA may never get to a bowl again, LOL.

If they went to 7 wins, some bowls would never take place. I hope I am out of the state if UVA ever qualifies for a bowl game again. Their fans will probably celebrate by rioting, turning over cars, burning down buildings. heck they may take a page out of WVA's book and burn couches on the street. They will act totally stupid and crazy.

Oh, by the way. Another QB left UVA yesterday. Why do QBs even bother to go up there, with their tack record with QBs ? I always though QBs were smart, til I looked at the list of the dumbies that transferred from UVA. They not dumb for leaving, they dumb for going there to begin with.

It's amazing that no players ever leave VT......

Some players do leave VT, but we do not have a Revolving Door for Quarterbacks. I have lost track of number of QBs that have left UVA. Dumbest one was the Sims guy. He leaves Alabama, goes to UVA, then to Winston Salem State.
London threw Rocco under the bus, after he led them to 8 wins and a bowl game. (their last bowl game).

I think we can expect some attrition from the program with a new coaching staff. We experienced that with basketball when Bennett came as well. It's very much the same thing that's happened at VT with Buzz and his program. Your football situation has been more stable because the new coaching staff retained Bud Foster. Had he departed the program, my guess is that VT would have had a number of kids leave the program too.

UVA is in a total rebuild as opposed to an evolution that VT is experiencing. In time, I am hopeful that we will enjoy the same stability in football that you guys have, just like, I'm sure, you hope the same for your basketball program that we have at UVA. We are transitioning from a total train wreck in football, no doubt. But we now have a proven D1 coach and staff that can make that transition become a winning one in the future. It took two coaches several years to ruin the program that Welsh built, (which BTW was a consistently winning highly ranked program), so it will take time to rebuild the program into a winning one under Mendenhall. I think we'll be better this year than in the past, but we have a long way to go. I believe most UVA fans are willing to give Bronco and his staff the resources and the time to turn the program around.

You guys have a great football environment in Blacksburg, and I would be lying if I said I don't respect what you have accomplished. I want our program to be better than yours, and that's a compliment to VT football. And in time. I believe it will be.

They haven't played a game yet. Then again, the bar isn't all that high either!
Al Groh was a failed college and NFL coach when he was hired. Mike London wasn't head coach material and was an unproven shot in the dark. Bronco is a proven winner with a decade long track record of winning football. I stand by my statement.

Mike London wasn't head coach material and was an unproven shot in the dark
Mike London had a national championship ring as a head coach, so it's a stretch to say he wasn't head coaching material. Your new guy will certainly never have one of those.

Unproven, I will agree with...but so is your new guy. Winning some games in the WAC or MWC or Big Sky or whatever conference he came from is not the same accomplishment as winning them in a BCS conference.

I recall when Groh and London were hired, they were to lead Hoos to the promise land.

But if anyone can name the last quarterback to sign with UVA, play QB 4 seasons and leave with a UVA degree, I will buy him/her a hotdog and drink at a ball game. Must name player and years played, and year getting degree,

His record at BYU was 99-43. I wouldn't call that winning some games. BYU had three straight losing seasons before Bronco took over. They've had none since. You can believe he's not a good coach. From what I've seen and read from practices he's a major step up from Mike London. Unproven is your new HC.

And you think coaching Memphis makes Daisy a better hire than Bronco?

Nope, I said nothing at all like that. All you Hoos need to work on your reading comprehension skills bigtime.

Bronco has never won a game as a head coach in a BCS conference, period. That by definition makes him unproven. His record in his non-BCS conference was decent, but certainly nothing spectacular, especially considering the resources that his school had to win on that level and the strong history they already had of winning. He was just decent, and it's hard to spin it otherwise.

And Daisy is every bit as unproven. Probably even moreso, so you guys can quit making up your own interpretations of what I said. I'll also go on record here and say that I don't think either program landed the next Urban Myer (from mid-major BG to 3 BCS titles), but both coaches can prove me wrong.

Look who is spinning here, lol! Putting BCS on your program doesn't determine if your a proven good coach. His resources was having to recruit a team full of Mormons. He had limited options when it came to recruiting. He didn't just barely win enough games to make it to bowl games. Seasons of 11-2,11-2, 9-4, etc. aren't just decent. He played against plenty of BCS teams over the years. He won some and lost some, but he competed against teams with tons more talent and more than held his own. None of that means he'll win that many games at UVA, but it is a good indicator he won't turn out to be ML or Groh.

Like I said in an earlier post, it's going to be interesting...by the tone of the chat here, it actually looks like the rivalry is starting to gain some traction again. But to be honest, the real football rivalry will only begin once we starting winning some games against VT. I'll admit we have a ways to go, but I believe we're on solid ground in the right direction. I also believe had we had any kind of a coach the past three games would have been in the W column for UVA. Beamer just flat out coached London, period.

At BYU he had a lot of older and more disciplined players than he will have at UVA. Considering some of the UVA players rejected offers from better programs, says their elevator doesn't go to the top floor.

By not choosing VT just shows they are smarter than the average bear.....

I know one player who VT never offered because of grades. He went to UVA and played 4 years. I believe he played a short time in NFL.

First of all I believe that Bronco is a very good coach. I followed him long before he got to UVA and he has always done one hell of a job. He will restore UVA to a team of very good status.
I believe that Fuentes is a very good coach and I believe that he will do a fine job at Va Tech.
To say at this point that one of these guys is going to way outdo the other one is horse s--- as none of us knows jack.
Frankly I wish we both could field top teams to make our rivalry more interesting and keep the friggen poachers away from our talent. I also want to continue to beat UVA.

I agree with everything you posted. Last sentence excluded.

Hopefully for UVA fans Bronco doesn't carry over the thug mentality program he ran at BYU. BYU was known for being one of the dirtiest programs in CFB...not sure if they will let him get away with that UVA though. He knows his stuff though so I'm sure he'll improve them...at what cost? Time will only tell.

What made them dirty?

UVA needs to play with an attitude, if that means a little dirty so be it.

LOL....ya'll act like that's a bad thing.....we just getting ready to do the Marcus stomp.

That's right. So the same logic should apply to basketball and baseball. 68 teams go to the NCAA's in basketball, and 64 play in the NCAA baseball tournament. Since VT is seldom invited to play in those why would any kid want to play basketball or baseball at VT?? Give me a break...the kids that choose the schools they play for in college do so for many different reasons. The college bowl system, by many observers, has become so watered down in talent played games, that it has almost become a joke. Kind of like the NIT or the CBC in basketball.
Personally, I hope UVA gets much better in football. I hope that your new coach does all he has promised. The bottom line is with two marque football programs competing for recruits in our state is a good thing. Maybe, just maybe between the two of us we can retain most of the top players in this state. I am sick of seeing all our top talent go out of state.

So as I wish for more competition from you in football, I am also optimistic for Virginia Tech's basketball program.

I thought that UVA was a dirty team before Mendenhall got there. I do think if they continue to play dirty, there will be more flags than he got at BYU. I would like to see a lot of boo Hoos get ejected also.
