After a long day of football, the RCS: Charlotte has ended. This camp was packed with VT targets - including two commits and over 30 with offers.

A Tech target in attendance today was 2017 DB Madison Cone.

"I went down there March 24 with quarterback Hendon Hooker, right after he committed," Cone said.

Cone's visit was his first time meeting the new Virginia Tech coaching staff. Former DB coach Torrian Gray originally offered Cone, but coach Charley Wiles has taken over that area. Cone is really pleased that most of the defensive staff has remained intact.

Cone had a strong showing at RCS: Charlotte. He made very few mistakes in coverage and had good technique. At the camp, he flashed some VT gloves. At this point, I'd have to say that Cone is definitely leaning towards Tech at this point.

2017 WR/TE Drake DeUlis has visited the Hokies three times now, including his most recent visit about two weeks ago for a Saturday practice.

"That place is wonderful," said DeUlis. "The tradition there is outstanding. The coaches are going to do a great job...[the indoor facility is] sick. It's really nice. Everything there is going in the right direction."

DeUlis had a good day at RCS: Charlotte. He has some room improve while showcasing flashes of talent. He was very steady on Sunday: he made a lot of catches and avoided anything bad. Based on talking to him, he likes Tech at this point. There is still a lot of time to go, however.

2019 RB Cameron Cloud is another guy with VT interest. He's got a lot of room to grow, as he is only a freshman in high school. He had a good day. He's definitely someone to keep an eye on in the future because of his age.

Armani Chatman has two offers, one of which is Virginia Tech. He's planning on visiting Blacksburg for the spring game. He really likes the new coaching staff, and Coach Fuente's direct approach drew Chatman's attention. The change of style also drew his attention, mostly because of the increase emphasis on the receiver.

Chatman made a really good on a fade route on a stutter step, but other wise had a solid day with few mistakes.

Matthew Butler has been relying on his younger brother to keep track of his 18 offers. He was able to remember his top six, which are (in no order): NC State, Duke, Penn State, Georgia Tech, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.

Butler has created the same relationship as he had with former Head Coach Frank Beamer, but he has still been in contact with the coaching staff. Coach Wiles, who has been recruiting him, really wants to get Butler on campus.

2017 DL Brad Johnson had to work to get his reps in today. He currently has around ten offers, but South Carolina leads the pack. Mississippi State and Virginia Tech are also in the mix, according to Johnson. He likes all three of those programs.

Johnson had a relatively good day on Sunday. He made minimal mistakes, but didn't make many standout plays.

One VT target, Devon Lawrence, didn't seem high on the Hokies at all. It would be safe to conclude that Virginia Tech is out of the running for the running back.

We'll have more info on recent commit Caleb Farley coming soon!

HokieVision Mic'd Up

Just got done watching Coach Wiggins's mic'd up segment. Obviously not there but it just feels like there is a very different energy in our offensive coaching this year. Have watched all these segments and I feel like this is the first time when our offense matches the vibe we've had on defense. Honestly think we are going to be a surprise team this year and build from here. Just like what I see and hear... All positive...

***INsider: Travis Etienne & VT Latest***

Guys, I spoke earlier with Jennings (La.) two-star running back Travis Etienne. This kid is on a roll right now. He's up to 17 offers, including VT, which offered yesterday.

Etienne participated in both the Nike and Rivals camps over the past month and most of his offers have come after that. He won the fastest man competition at the Nike camp, with a hand time of 4.38. He said he's run a laser time of 4.43.

As you can imagine, these offers have come so fast that Etienne said he hasn't had much time to think them over. With the Hokies, he said the main thing he knows is that they use their running backs and VT has a good engineering program.

Assistant coach Galen Scott is the primary recruiter here, but Etienne said that when he called Scott to talk yesterday, coach Justin Fuente is actually the one who made the offer. Eteienne said Fuente told him he thought he'd be "a perfect fit" on and off of the field and could compete and play early as a freshman.

Tennessee seems to really have caught his attention. The Vols offered Sunday, after his Nike camp performance. Etienne plans on visiting Alabama Saturday for the spring game, but after that the next place he wants to visit Tennessee. He also mentioned Oklahoma State as well, so keep an eye out there, too.

Not sure when or if he'll get to VT. There's interest, but it would have to be sometime over the summer. It sounds like he's in no hurry to decide, since he hopes he can get even more offers. Whenever his interest slows down, that's when he'll start to narrow things down. When Rivals re-releases the rankings next month, expect this guy to be three-stars at minimum, likely a high three-star or low four-star. He's got speed to burn. which is always appealing.

Hokies Gain 2017 QB* Commit

Quarterback Caleb Farley just committed to Virginia Tech on Friday afternoon. Farely, a member of the 2017 class, had gained three offers, the Hokies, Wake Forest, Old Dominion. He's listed as a dual-threat QB and checks in at 6'0" and 168 lbs.

While being listed at QB, it is unlikely that he will play that position with the Hokies, who have already signed a 3* 2017 QB in Hendon Hooker.

***INsider: Caleb Chandler On VT Offer, Recruiting***

Guys, I just got off the phone a few minutes ago with Jefferson (Ga.) three-star offensive lineman Caleb Chandler. He was just offered by Virginia Tech today, which made offer No. 21. Florida offered last night, while Memphis offered last week.

First off, Chandler is a big, country boy. He told me his first love is baseball, which he has played since he can remember. He's huge now, at 6'5" and almost 300 pounds, so he plays DH. Chandler told me his teammates call him 'Big Papi' because he's so big, like David Ortiz and can hit home runs about as far.

But football is where Chandler said he knows his future is. With the Hokies, assistant coach Vance Vice offered, which means something, as picky as we know he is about who he offers. Chandler told me they've talked just about every day here recently. He said that Vice has told him how much he likes him and has even made sure Chandler has seen video of how the OL has looked this spring.

It sounds like Chandler doesn't know a ton about the Hokies, but he really likes Vice and is certainly intrigued by what he does know. Chandler told me, "Virginia Tech is up there."

No plans to visit right now, but Chandler told me the three he definitely wants to see this summer are VT, Florida and Tennessee. He plans on visiting Georgia Saturday for the spring game there.

This recruitment will last for a while. Not a lot of visits right now, since Chandler is in the middle of baseball season. He told me he hopes to make a decision in the week after his senior football season. That's a few weeks into December, which is the dead period and also why he wants to announce then, plus not to be a distraction to his team. I like this kid a lot. Very polite, well-mannered kid, but I think it's a bit early to say there's a favorite or where anyone stands.
