**INsider: Drake DeUliis

Hey everyone,

I just got off the phone with DeUliis and wanted to post some quick info on him.

Most importantly, how to say his last name: De-ewwl-ious (Deluliis).

DeUliis actually knew he wanted to commit to Virginia Tech after he visited for a Saturday practice about three weeks ago. He talked to his parents immediately afterwards, but they all agreed he needed to make sure that it wasn't an emotional decision. They made sure to keep it under wraps until he was completely sure he wanted to be a Hokie. He told me that he didn't want to be one of those players that decommits.

On his visits, he loved the atmosphere, the college town, and the fans. He's also big on the education that Virginia Tech provides and is looking at being an accounting major as of now (wasn't entirely sure, but he did want a major in the business school).

Just like in the impact analysis, he's going to be used as a Bucky Hodges type tight-end (minimal blocking, but will be asked to do it some). He said the coaching staff sees him as a guy making big catches up the middle.

While talking to him, he said he's a really quiet guy and doesn't want to be in the spotlight. He just wants to put in as much work as he possibly can and then go out on the field.

One last tidbit on his commitment: the Virginia Tech food played a factor. He loved both the on and off campus food choices in Blacksburg.

I'll be posting a full story on DeUliis later, but wanted to share some of the details as soon as possible.

Guys, tomorrow is a day many of you have looked forward to for some time. Ocean Lakes (Va.) four-star DT Eric Crosby will announce at 3 pm tomorrow, at his school for either VT or Tennessee. Our friend Matt Hatfield from VirginiaPreps.com will be there for live updates.

But on the night before, I wanted to pass on some info. I've made a number of calls, from VT staff sources to sources at Tennessee and in the 757. Here's the latest:

First off, it's important to note that the new coach at Ocean Lakes, Joe Jones, is a VT alum. And our sources in Tidewater have told us that Jones has indicated that Crosby will pick the Hokies. Jones will be at VT’s spring game Saturday and has told our sources that Crosby will be "somewhere" Saturday before going to Charlotte Sunday for the Nike camp. Why would Jones go to VT's spring game and not take Crosby?

It's important also to note that Jones is in no way steering Crosby one way or the other. But Jones has had a few players from his last school, King's Fork, go to VT, most recently Chuck Clark. Also, Crosby is very tight with Tre Hubbard, who will be walking on this fall with the Hokies. I can tell you for a fact that Hubbard has long been in Crosby's ear and that will play a factor.

I've spoken to VT staff sources, who told me they "feel pretty good" about the chances with Crosby. I'm told that Crosby spoke this morning with coach Justin Fuente, defensive coordinator Bud Foster and assistant coaches Zohn Burden and Charley Wiles. The feeling I'm told they got is that Crosby was "bubbly" which they took as a very good sign.

I spoke to sources at Tennessee, who told me the Vols staff is "cautiously optimistic" about Crosby. My source told me that Crosby's mom talked to Vol for Life, which supports current and former players, academic counselors and face timed yesterday with Tennessee's DL coach who told her that he was losing sleep over Crosby. My source said Crosby's mom told him, ‘Oh hush coach, you’re gonna be fine.”

I also heard for the first time tonight that it's a strong possibility that Crosby's mom could be moving back to Texas, where the family was before moving to Virginia Beach for work. The family livednear San Antonio, as his dad is a military contractor, before they moved to Norfolk.

I'm told by both sides that Crosby has not told either VT or Tennessee of his decision. Again, I've said it before, but I think Crosby's commitment will go up to signing day, no matter who he chooses tomorrow.

As always, I'll pass on anything else I come across to you guys.

Jason about Gaddy&Ewell...

Jason, do you have any idea what either of these are thinking currently? I know trying to read the minds of 17 and 18 year old kids is frustrating at best, but have they hinted where VT is? Ewell (sp?) looks like a top notch DT prospect but seems to be looking to the north and Midwest more, do you think Fuentes and co can break into that top 5? Is Gaddy a priority to this staff? He is massive and moves well for his size. Is it true that Crosbys high school coach just took the job at the school where Gaddy goes? If so, is that good or bad for Hokies? Thanks in advance!

Derrek Pitts Update On VT, Visits

Guys, I caught up with four-star safety Derrek Pitts at the Rivals Camp and honestly, I think Penn State is the overwhelming favorite here, even if he doesn't want to put a list out. The Hokies are still trying to stay in it, as assistant coach Vance Vice visited Pitts and the other WV targets (Dorian Etheridge, Billy Ross, Riley Locklear) Friday. But you can tell in how Pitts talks that the Nittany Lions are up there:

***INsider: VT's 4.19 Practice Notes***

Guys, just got back a little while ago from Virginia Tech, where the Hokies opened up the last hour of practice for students and media. This was our first look at how the team looks overall since practice No. 2. Here's some notes and observations:

Coach Justin Fuente mentioned earlier in the day how the team likely wouldn't have enough players for a full, regular spring game. Instead, an adjusted scoring system will be used on Saturday. Tonight, we saw why, with just under 20 players injured, either in green jerseys (no contact) or blue jerseys (limited contact).

Among the noteworthy in green were Vinny Mihota (right foot in boot), Yosuah Nijman (boot on right foot), Cam Phillips (right foot in boot for high ankle sprain), Sean Huelskamp, Raymon Minor, Brandon Facyson, Steve Sobczak, Seth Dooley, Braxton Pfaff and D'Andre Plantin. Those in blue were Isaiah Ford, Chris Cunningham, Khalid Ladler and Erik Banks. Ford and Cunningham both participated, however.

The biggest notable thing here was that Brenden Motley took nearly every rep with the ones. He was on target for nearly all of his throws, including on a deep out to junior basketball convert Devin Wilson. On the play, Wilson went up top to haul in an acrobatic catch. Wilson looked very impressive from what we saw, with a few good routes as well. Looks like he's earned a more permanent spot on the roster. He's definitely benefitted from extra reps, with Ford and Phillips a little banged up.

Motley also looked well on a touchdown pass from about five yards to tight end Chris Cunningham on a crossing pattern. Motley seemed poised and well in command of the ones.

The guy who really struggled was Jérod Evans. Running with the twos, he had tons of zip on the ball, but threw high or long on nearly every throw we saw. He had a few good fakes however, and looked more comfortable on zone reads or other quarterback runs. He had a nice fake late in the practice and had a wide open receiver, but overthrew him.

About 1,000 students were on hand tonight, as only students were allowed in aside from media. They had to show their student IDs for entrance, then were allowed on the field for photos with players.
