Guys, I spoke a little while ago with Battlefield (Va.) three-star DE Brailyn Franklin, who was at VT's spring game yesterday. He made the trip with his mom, his brother and girlfriend.

First off, Franklin was a kid who I thought was a prime candidate to commit. Yesterday was the fourth time he'd been to VT this spring. That in itself says a lot, plus, he brought his girlfriend and his mom flew up from Texas to make the visit with him. But no commitment at this time.

Franklin said he loved the visit and called the atmosphere, "amazing." Part of that, Franklin said he walked around the stadium and saw all the people tailgating and the other festivities going on. "How many people do you see tailgating for a spring game?" he told me. Franklin also seemed to like the attention he got and said a number of people were walking up to him and telling him he needed to commit to the Hokies.

After the game, Franklin said he met with defensive coordinator Bud Foster, his primary recruiter. That was the first time Foster had met his mom. Franklin's parents are divorced and he moved from Texas to live with his father in February of 2015. Franklin said the meeting with Foster was brief because of the other recruits in,but that he enjoyed it.

VT might have the best odds of anybody with this kid. But he says he still wants to take visits to West Virginia, Marshall, Temple and Kansas. It'll be interesting to see if he waits that long. For one thing, the Hokies would take him right now if wanted to commit, but they're also not gonna wait on him. Franklin said he wants to name a top list and commit a week later, either late summer or early during his season. But if other DEs commit, Franklin might not have a spot at VT. Still, for now, the Hokies are the clear leader and who knows, the kid could change his mind and be ready to commit any time. Definitely keep an eye on this one.

***INsider: Jermani Brown On Decommitment, VT***

Guys, I just got off the phone with Midlothian (Va.) four-star CB Jermani Brown, No. 50 in the Rivals100. Brown visited VT today with his parents. This was the second time he'd been to VT.

As you guys know, the big news is that Brown decommitted from Arizona State after his visit to VT today. He's been committed there since last fall, but as has been mentioned before, his mom is now a VP at a hospital near Richmond, so they moved from Calabasas, Calif. to Virginia, where they are now. I think that move had the biggest thing to do with his decision. Brown told me he didn't believe he committed too early, but that "it would be harder to go visit" and he wants to look at options. All of the schools since his move that he's looked at have been on the east coast. Brown did say that he's still considering the Sun Devils, but this was just a matter of when, since they also got a brand new coaching staff after last season.

With the Hokies, Brown said he loved his visit. I got a photo of him during the game, hanging out with Tahj Capehart and Khalan Laborn, whom he met at the Rivals Camp last weekend and seems to have gotten a good friendship with. Brown told me "It was better than I thought it was gonna be. I’m excited for this season." He told me he loved the atmosphere and that he and his family walked through tailgating and loved everything they saw.

The only downside is that he said he didn't get a chance to talk to assistant coach Brian Mitchell like he'd hoped to. Brown said he was told Mitchell wasn't at today's game because his daughter got married today. Still, it's important to note that Brown opened up after his visit today. He told me about the Hokies, "At the corner position, I need to get to know the coach more, but they have a lot of potential."

Brown said his next stop in his recruitment is likely to Michigan State in June, but no date has been set firmly. I think VT has made a huge leap with Brown after today. I don't wanna say the Hokies are in the lead just yet, but it's mighty close.

Early Depth Chart

This goes out to Jason, anybody else on the staff or even anybody at the game. I know there were a lot of kids that didn't play and obviously it's still super early but I'd love to hear what you guys think the full depth chart is at the end of the spring season heading into day one of summer camp. Thanks.

What I saw yesterday

- QB spot looked like Evans and Jackson looked about even. There were plays were they could have made big yards scrambling but with the touch rule they were down early. Also they all need to make better reads which will come with time in this new system
- RB spot I liked how Mckienze looked. And as a whole we moved the ball on the ground it seemed.
-Wr Bradshaw Deablo and Carroll looked like they can provide some much needed help at the spot. And I think Wilson makes the team. They thing that stood out the most was there were guys wide open and I'm not used to seeing that
- Ol got pushed but...... Held there own for a few seconds. If we got the ball out quicker they would have been ok
-DL looks strong and I liked the motor Walker and Settle has.
-DE Gained really stood out could say much for others
-LB needs a ton of work overall but Clark and Edmunds are nasty
-DB looked excellent for the most part. There were guys that got behind them that the QB couldn't find but they always were around the ball in good position.

Overall I'm excited to see this team progress and think we can do great things this year with the overall talent. Guys just need to step up. And having a mobile QB in this offense we have the capability to be deadly. Once ford and Phillips come back with Bucky getting more looks there will be serious weapons the defense has to deal with down field. That's some big options for the QB
