Guys, I spoke earlier with American Heritage (Fla.) 2017 four-star RB Kyshaun Bryan, one of the more recent offers by Justin Fuente's new staff. Just wanted to get a gauge on if the new offer changes anything for him.

Bryan said he now has 11 offers. Atmosphere and comfort are the biggest things he's looking for, but he also seems to have a strong affinity for the ACC. The real interesting thing here, though, is that Bryan said assistant coach Zohn Burden is the one who offered him. That means, to an extent, it sounds like Burden will be recruiting some in Florida. He didn't this past year.

Bryan said that so far, there hasn't been any in-depth conversation with him and Burden. It's been just "get to know you" type of talk, but Bryan said he likes Burden and what he's heard. Still, the Hokies have some ground to make up.

I asked Bryan what schools were standing out in any way and he said Florida State, Miami, Florida, Ohio State, West Virginia and Clemson. He's already visited Florida State and Florida, but said he grew up a big Gators fan. Still, it sounds like he's definitely visiting Florida State for junior day with the possibility of visiting the others mentioned, as well as Virginia Tech.

Bryan is coming off injuries in back to back seasons, a sprained ligament in his ankle as a sophomore and a sprained knee this season, but says he's fully healthy now. This spring will be big for him to show his full health and he said he plans to participate in both the Nike and Rivals camps. Still very early for VT, but there's slight interest, meaning Burden and the Hokies need to keep it up.

Merry Christmas

I hope each of you and your families have a great Christmas and a wonderful New Year. I really enjoy the banter with you guys and look forward to more in the up coming year. I will be having back surgery Monday so I will be out of commission for a few days but look forward to being back soon. I think my back gave out trying to carry the banner for the Hoos all by myself over here. LOL. I hope each of you Hokies get coal in your stockings......

Frank Beamer looks back....

http://www.campusrush.com/frank-beamer-virginia-tech-hokies-final-game-1522799859.html

BLACKSBURG, Va.—The last two syllables were too much. Frank Beamer couldn't squeeze them out, not that afternoon.

"I think it's time for me to …" the longtime football coach's voice choked. The hallway was empty but for him and his son, Shane. And Shane knew. His father didn't need to say it. Retire. It was there, in his eyes, in the tears he fought back. The end.

It's a great read guys, I'd post the whole article here but it's too long.

Will UVA become the dirtiest team in college football?

Under Bronco Mendenhall, BYU has often been referred to as the dirtiest team in football. Don't believe me? Google "Dirtiest football teams ncaa" and 4 of the first 5 articles are about BYU. Also it should be pointed out that Broncos teams are often among the most heavily penalized teams in the country.

Now, I know UVA has had a reputation of being soft....but I'm not so sure I'd want my team to swing all the way over the other side of the bench.

Now, I'm sure we will have our local UVA fans bring up Marcus Vick and a few other players we've had on our team who most would consider "dirty"....but all teams have had a few players like that. At the end of the day neither VT nor UVA have ever been considered "dirty" teams though.

Divine Deablo Report At Shrine Bowl

Guys, if you missed it this morning, Adam Friedman covered the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas most of last week and today released a list of superlatives: http://rvls.co/1MrBTyG

Thought this was interesting on Divine Deablo, whom he named as the recruit at the even who raised his stock most:
"If prospects were assigned ratings based on having the best name, Deablo would already be a five-star. This week, capped off by a good performance in the game, Deablo raised his stock. He's shown improved athleticism and his hands have been more consistent than before. Deablo's game still needs polishing in critical areas but this week was a success for him."

Guys, I just spoke a few minutes ago with Lafayette (Va.) three-star LB Chase Pine. He's been committed to Pittsburgh since June, but as many of you know, VT has remained on him for a while.

Pine said for right now, he remains committed to Pitt, but said he's "looking around at other options." And unless something changes, the schools still in play for Pine are Pitt, VT, Maryland and Iowa State. Pine said he would like to stay close to home, but the Cyclones, with new coach Matt Campbell, have really intrigued him. Pine officially visited there Dec. 11.

The other school to really watch here is Maryland. Pine said he's talked a lot with new coach DJ Durkin, but has also talked a lot with new assistants Mike London and Scott Shafer. London seems to be the biggest X-factor, though, as those two have talked a lot.

The Hokies are still very much in this one. And the reason is Justin Fuente. Pine said Fuente called him the first day he was in Virginia, Nov. 30 and they've stayed in touch regularly since. Fuente has been over to see him and Pine said Fuente has talked about using him on both offense and defense. Pine would be a linebacker, but also an H-back. He said Iowa State has talked about him being in a QB/Wildcat role, which is very appealing to him.

Right now, Pine said he has two officials planned, to Pitt Jan. 15 and Maryland Jan. 22. He said right now he won't be visiting VT, because he's already been twice unofficially, for the Ohio State game and the spring game back in April. But he said if he were to go to VT, it would be a switch with Maryland that weekend.

This one is certainly heating up. Bud Foster and Fuente have him very, very high on their boards. Only behind Keith Simms at linebacker. But I don't think the Hokies have a realistic shot if he doesn't visit next month.

Guys, looking like VT would like to have one more offensive lineman for the 2016 class. And one of the most recent offers went out last week to Hannibal (Mo.) three-star guard Dylan Powell. I spoke with Powell a few minutes ago to gauge his interest.

Powell has been committed to Purdue since June. He took his official visit there Dec. 4 and when I asked him where he stood with the Boilers, Powell told me "I'm still committed. I just love the coaches there and all the players there."

Today, Powell also received an offer from Iowa State, but it doesn't sound like he's too interested there. If there's one school that has a shot, it's VT. Powell didn't say much, but he didn't exactly say he wasn't interested. He said he's talked to assistant Vance Vice since Vice was at Memphis. Vice hasn't seen him yet, but did call him to give him the offer from the Hokies. And Powell seems to like Vice quite a bit.

IF Vice keeps working Powell, we could see a visit to VT in January. But there's no definite that happens. Powell is at least considering the Hokies, but we'll see if that happens. Powell did say Vice calls him at least once a week, so they've kept in touch a lot. If I had to say right now, I think Powell stays at Purdue, but getting him to visit is the key.

Who do we close with?

Getting Phillip Patterson to re-commit was big. The signings of Jerod Evans and Demetri Moore were epic. TJ Jackson's pledge was unexpected but welcomed. Now for the finish. Who do we land? Who do we steal? There are quite a few recruits who are committed to other schools that a lot of VT fans and gurus feel really good about VT acquiring.

Chase Pine: Pitt
JaQuan Bailey: Florida
Rick Wells: Florida
Latrell Williams: South Florida
Tino Ellis: Maryland

Realistic chances of stealing them away from the schools they are currently committed to?
