The latest w/ R250 DB Hamlin

Rivals250 DB Damar Hamlin is trying to do his homework on the schools that have offered him. He is in touch with as many schools as he can and spends a lot of time messaging with coaches over Twitter. He mentions schools like Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Clemson, Penn State an Virginia Tech as some of the ones he is in touch with most. Hamlin is also in the process of planning some visits farther away from home.

VT In ACC/Big Ten Challenge

This came out yesterday, but any thoughts on VT in the challenge next basketball season? Hokies will play Northwestern. I wasn't sure if VT would take part, since there's one ACC team and usually the worst team from the previous season gets left out. Georgia Tech is the one left out, though.

Date Game
Mon, Nov 30 Clemson at Minnesota
Wake Forest at Rutgers
Tue, Dec 1 No. 4 Maryland at No. 2 North Carolina
No. 5 Virginia at Ohio State
Michigan at NC State
Purdue at Pittsburgh
Northwestern at Virginia Tech
Miami (Fla.) at Nebraska
Wed, Dec 2 No. 14 Indiana at No. 7 Duke
No. 21 Louisville at No. 12 Michigan State
No. 13 Notre Dame at Illinois
No. 25 Wisconsin at Syracuse
Florida State at Iowa
Penn State at Boston College

Ocean Lakes is being investigated.

Story up on the pilotonline site. A lot of good players we are interested in at OLHS. It briefly mentioned recruiting and how players may have been steered to certain schools. Maybe Nnadi and the recent commit had a little encouragement from coaches to attend FSU. Not saying this is true; however, Virginia Beach School System has reason to believe something is shady and another school or two may be next.

***5.14 VT INsider Chat Details***

Guys, I mentioned this last week, but this week's chat will be moved up a day, to Thursday, but still at our regular time of 12:30 pm ET. There's plenty of recruiting going on, from new offers, to the Rivals Combine, to the false reports of a new VT basketball commit. Come get answers to those questions and anything else you're curious about, by getting the very most out of your subscriptions for the chat!

Zach Welch At DC Rivals Combine

Guys, here's my story and video with Northwest Guilford (NC) safety Zach Welch, who badly wants a VT offer. He's very good friends with Mook Reynolds, but it remains to be seen if the Hokies will jump in. I love Welch a lot. Great kid who plays extremely hard, but he's a 'tweener' in size, which is why he doesn't have any offers at this point. He'd been playing linebacker, but is short for that spot and has moved to safety to try to help that:

Calvin Ashley Talks VT, Recruiting

Guys, here's my full story on Ashley. The teams really in play here besides his latest offers, Alabama and VT are Auburn, Ohio State, Michigan, Louisville, Miami and South Carolina. He said he doesn't remember all of his 24 offers, but when I asked which ones should I make sure were on his profile, he said those. Auburn though is the overwhelming favorite at this point, as he visited there for the spring game last month (only visit this spring) and will be back May 30 for a camp there. But he did mention wanting to visit VT. Plenty of time here.

***INsider: Fred Hansard On VT Offer***

Guys, I just talked earlier with 2017 four-star DT Fred Hansard, who just picked up an offer from VT today, his ninth overall. Hansard transferred from Camden Catholic (NJ) to Hun School (NJ) last fall and reclassified from the 2016 class.

It sounds like that move has proven very beneficial so far. He didn't have many looks before, but now has Ohio State, Miami, Iowa and others.

With VT, Hansard said he actually visited in December. He said it was for a junior day, but I believe it was for one of the official visit weekends the Hokies had for their committed guys. Others visited, too, but it wasn't officially a junior day. But Hansard said he loved seeing the construction on the new facility, meeting the coaches and also seeing the players' lounge.

Assistant coaches Charley Wiles and Cornell Brown actually visited Hansard at school today to make the offer. Hansard said he likes both and they've told him how much they like and want him to be a Hokie. Hansard said of VT, "They're definitely a team I'll stay with."

Right now, it sounds like Rutgers might have a slight advantage, if any of them do. Hansard said he's been quite a few times, as it's only about 30 minutes from his home. He said the DL coach, Jim Panagos, has the best relationship with him than any other coach.

No visits set yet, but Hansard said he wants to see as many of the schools that have offered him this summer as he can, like North Carolina, Miami, Iowa, Arizona State and Penn State. The Nittany Lions are the only one that has not offered, which is also something to watch.

***INsider: Calvin Ashley On VT Offer***

Guys, I spoke a little while ago with 2017 Dr Phillips (Fla.) five-star OL Calvin Ashley. VT just offered today, becoming his 24th offer.

Ashley said that while he's listed at 6'7" and 270 pounds, he's actually at 6'8" and 311 pounds. He told me that's the result of a lot of protein, like pork and pasta.

Assistant coach Stacy Searels visited Ashley this morning and made the offer to his coach, who relayed the news. Ashley didn't have a ton to say about VT as coaches can't contact him right now, but Ashley said he wants to find out more.

The other most recent offer for Ashley came two weeks ago when Alabama and Lane Kiffin offered. But the school to watch as the presumptive favorite here is Auburn. That's the only place he's visited this year, for the spring game and he spent the weekend there. He also is going back May 30 for the Big Cat camp. Without me even asking, though, the only other school he said he might visit this summer is VT, though no date set.

Hard to get much of a read past that he really likes Auburn, but if he does visit VT, that'll be the true indicator.

RESULTS: Rivals Combine DC

Guys, this will be on our front page in a bit, but here's the full results of everyone who competed Sunday at the DC stop of the Rivals Camp Series presented by Under Armour. Remember, all the times are laser timed and are as accurate as is possible. The equipment and crew who operated it was the exact same as the NFL Combine the past few years, as Under Armour is also the NFL Combine sponsor. I think these times were a bit eye-opening for a lot of kids and parents who had run low numbers by hand time:

VT caught the eye of big time 2016 WR

Tennessee, Virginia Tech, Michigan, UGA, Clemson, Ole Miss, Virginia, Penn State, N.C. State, Wake Forest, Maryland and Miami have offered big time WR Grant Holloway but the Volunteers, Seminoles, Bulldogs and Hokies have caught his eye. He is planning visits to Florida, Florida State, Clemson and Georgia. Offers from Florida, Florida State, Oregon or Alabama could be game-changers for Holloway.

Holloway has a chance to be a big time track athlete as well and he isn't considering any school that says he can't do track and football in college. He admitted that, out of all the schools he is considering right now, Tennessee has the edge when it comes to track. He does not have a leader yet on the football side.
