You'd obviously like to see VT be a factor with more of the top prospects at a camp right in their primary recruiting territory. Will be important for the staff to put together a good season and get back in the conversation for some of them. At the same time, the worry about going after kids in Texas while not giving enough attention to those closer to home (and landing the top options from neither group) still looms large.

Another huge assistant coach hire with Antwon Jackson reported to be joining the Hokie staff from U Cinn. Like Frazier, another high level, proven recruiter with very strong ties in the DMV and on the AAU circuit. Has especially close ties to high school that produced current VT de-commit Ant Harris and presumption is his first order of business will be to recruit Harris back into the fold. Among the recruits he brought in at U Cinn was Jarron Cumberland, a Top 40 signee in the 2016 class. Props to Coach Young with attracting another top notch assistant/recruiter to the VT staff!

A Hoo of all people told me that Texas A&M was hot after Buzz. After what they spent to lure Jimbo there, this is worriesome.. A&M has absolutely no basketball tradition but money talks. Tech needs to get off their wallet and make sure that Buzz stays in the Burg.

Reports are breaking that Mike Young has hired Chester Frazier, currently at Kansas State, to be an assistant at VT. Frazier is a highly regarded young coach and an outstanding recruiter. This is a big time hire for Young. I'm sure Tim will have more on this later today!

Sort of a 180 from earlier in the process, when he wasn’t particularly interested in the Hokies (and they didn’t consider him a take). The change probably comes from the high-end OL targets coming off the board.
