*** On Kadum...

This young man is a GAMER!

I have seen Kadum love over half a dozen times... I have seen him play multiple times, practice and camp over the last three years. He is a WINNER!

Here are my thoughts on the new Hokie.

STRENGTHS
  • Love his ability to lead
  • So calm under pressure
  • Deep ball
  • Consistency
  • Mobility
AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT
  • Strength
  • Frame
  • Footwork
  • Throwing on time
EVALUATION

Kadum is a quarterback that may not be the biggest, he may not have the super arm and he may not be Michael Vick, but he does a lot of things well. He still needs to add mass and strength to his frame, and that should come in time. He won two state titles, so he knows how to play in big games and win those. He throws a very good deep ball and has thrown with good accuracy the last couple of years. He will need to make sure he throws with better timing with coverage being much more tight in the ACC. There is a lot to like about Kadum. He will go to VT ready to compete, so do not sleep on him despite his offer list not reflecting his ability.

Tunnel Talk EXTRA: Major moves with a major visitor

Doug Nester’s on-again off-again visit plans for the weekend ended up on-again, and it’s paying off for Virginia Tech. The Ohio State offensive line commit seems like an extremely serious option for VT right now.

In fact, sources close to Nester indicate that the murky nature of the visit might have been more about not needing to see VT again (because he’d already formed his extremely high opinion of the program) rather than it being outside the realistic options in his recruitment.

New QB commit Knox Kadum has been in his ear this weekend, and that certainly hasn’t hurt (though again, may not have been necessary all along).

He’d be the highest-ranked member of the class and a surefire anchor in what is already a pretty good offensive line group.

Distance to home - Columbus and Blacksburg are about equidistant, while Penn State (which may otherwise have won out) is farther away - has been a factor in the Hokies’ favor. He’s spoken to those in his inner circle and has indicated that it may ultimately be one of the factors that indeed results in a commitment to Virginia Tech.

An announcement timeline hasn’t been decided upon, but all indications as things stand today are that whenever the choice is, VT is the current favorite.

Tunnel Talk EXTRA: A quarterback incoming?

When Virginia Tech offered Rome (Ga.) quarterback Knox Kadum a couple days ago, they were in pursuit of a James Madison commit.

That's no longer the case, though. After Kadum set up an official visit to Blacksburg for this weekend, the Dukes decided they'd cut ties with the three-star in order to pursue other QB prospects. That indicates their level of confidence that they'd be able to hold off the Hokies for his signature (low), and VT should be feeling confident that they'll be able to lock down his pledge this weekend.

"I’m no longer committed to JMU," Kadum said. They pulled my scholarship earlier in the morning when I told them I was taking an official visit. Looking real good for the Hokies."

That's a pretty refreshing level of candor that Virginia Tech will be able to secure a commitment during the course of his official visit, so stay tuned for what seems more a matter of when than if.
