***INsider: Tyree Johnson On VT Offer***

Guys, I spoke earlier with St Johns College High (DC) 2017 three-star ATH Tyree Johnson. He was one of the most recent to get a VT offer, coming Thursday.

St Johns is a very good school for VT to really get into in DC. Lots of talent through there and it's the alma mater of Kevin Plank, the head and founder of Under Armour. Johnson said he loved the offer from the Hokies. He said they were a favorite of his growing up as a kid and that he loved Michael Vick.

Assistant coach Holmon Wiggins made the offer for VT. Johnson has only spoken briefly with Wiggins, but said he feels like he's a "good dude." Wiggins has also gotten Johnson to set a visit to Blacksburg for the Hokies' second junior day, on Feb. 20.

Right now, the only other two offers Johnson has are Rutgers and Temple. He told me the only other visit he has planned is to Wake Forest the same weekend of the VT visit, after the junior day. The only visit he's taken so far has been to Penn State for a game last fall. He liked it, but he didn't mention a lot standing out.

Still very early here. Johnson doesn't seem to be swaying any direction, so getting him to visit VT in a few weeks is big. Full story coming.

***INsider: Rick Wells Update***

As always, what's posted here, STAYS HERE. Don't de-value your own subscription by giving away information to others who don't pay like you do. It's also a violation of our terms of service and will result in the termination of your subscription.

Guys, I spoke just a little while ago with Raines (Fla.) four-star WR Rick Wells, who was supposed to visit VT officially this weekend, but obviously, that got cancelled because of the snow.

Wells told me he now has his VT official set for Wednesday through Thursday. He's still committed to Florida and plans to officially visit there next weekend.

With the Hokies, Wells said he likes how the coaches have been up front with him. Assistant coach Charley Wiles has done a good job here and visited him last week. Wiles and assistant coach Holmon Wiggins have both visited and Wells said he appreciated their honesty. "They just kept it 100 with me, through the process of me coming in and competing, not saying anything is promised."

Wells officially visited South Florida last week, the third of his three finalists. He liked the visit, but the knock there is his recruiter, Ron Dugans left last week to go to Miami. So I don't think the Bulls had a great chance to begin with, but it really took a hit there.

Wells plans to announce on signing day between VT, Florida and USF. He said Maryland has come in over the past week or so but he has no interest there. I do think the Hokies are in the lead here over the Gators, but not by a ton. And you never want to count out where a kid visits last, which in this case is Florida.

Strength coach

Guys
Memphis head strength coach accepted head position at Missouri.
I thought for sure he would be head guy at VT.
Jason any inside who they might get as head strength coach.
I don't think many of you guys understand how big having a top strength coach is. They spend more time with them then anyone.

***INsider: Dylan Powell Update***

As always, what's posted here, STAYS HERE. Don't de-value your own subscription by giving away information to others who don't pay like you do. It's also a violation of our terms of service and will result in the termination of your subscription.

Guys, I spoke earlier with Hannibal (Mo.) three-star OL Dylan Powell, one of the big group of official visitors the Hokies were supposed to have this weekend. Of course, that was cancelled due to all the snow in Blacksburg, nearly a foot at this point.

Powell told me he's now rescheduled his VT official visit for Wednesday. He'll also officially visit Stanford next weekend.

With the Hokies, Powell said his visit being cancelled doesn't change his feelings towards them. He told me he still has a great relationship with assistant coach Vance Vice and talks to him nearly every day. Powell does really like Stanford, too and said "It's great to be able to get an offer from a school of that magnitude." On both visits, he's looking at academic support, campus life and his comfort level.

The other news with Powell is that he's cut out Purdue, where he was committed previously, from his list. He's now down to VT, Stanford and Iowa State, though it sounds like it's more between the first two. The thing you've gotta like about Powell is that he plans on announcing a week from Monday, before signing day. He told me I don’t wanna string it out for these coaches. They’re great coaches and great men. It’s just the right thing to do." And you've gotta respect him for that.

I still think the Hokies have a slight edge here, but we'll see how the next week-plus goes, as far as if that changes.

***INsider: Jaquan Bailey Update***

As always, what's posted here, STAYS HERE. Don't de-value your own subscription by giving away information to others who don't pay like you do. It's also a violation of our terms of service and will result in the termination of your subscription.

Guys, I spoke earlier with Raines (Fla.) three-star defensive end Jaquan Bailey, one of the scheduled visitors to VT this weekend. Very up in the air now what he'll do.

Bailey told me that he now will take the next couple of days to decide whether he wants to visit VT or Iowa State next weekend. It sounds like visiting during the week isn't an option because of various reasons, including school.

Before you ask, the main reason Iowa State is in the picture is because the Cyclones are one of the few to offer Jaquan and his brother, three-star DT Josh Bailey. Jaquan said he doesn't have to play with his brother, but it sounds like he'd prefer to and also told me "I'm thinking about my mom, so she doesn’t want to go to two colleges, across the country." Jaquan said he also really likes new coach Matt Campbell at Iowa State.

The Hokies have not offered Josh and it sounds like they don't plan to. Jaquan loves assistant coach Charley Wiles and met with him earlier this week. He also called and text Wiles today about all the snow.

Jaquan doesn't want to list a top group, but it sounds like Tennessee and Central Florida are also in the mix here. The only one of the four mentioned not to offer his brother is VT. Jaquan said he and his brother will likely visit UCF this coming week, but not sure if that will be for an official. It's only about a two-hour drive. He also really liked officially visiting Tennessee last weekend and said he felt like he was already on the team.

It sounds like the Bailey brothers will decide on signing day. I know VT feels good about Jaquan, but obviously, playing with his brother is a big deal. We'll know over the next few days what the Hokies' chances are. If he visits, the chances are still good. If he goes to Iowa State instead, there's little to no chance.

***INsider: Visit Changes***

Guys, I've been told so far that there are a few who have rescheduled their visits from this weekend. Here's what I've got so far.

Full INsider update coming on three-star OL Dylan Powell, but I talked to him earlier and he has planned to now visit VT on Wednesday. He'll officially visit Stanford next weekend. He's down to VT, Stanford and Iowa State, having cut Purdue out.

Three-star DE Jaquan Bailey told me he isn't sure what he's gonna do as he wants to visit either Iowa State or VT next weekend. Doesn't sound like he'll be able to take any visits any other time. So we won't know about this one until over the next few days. Full INsider coming here, too.

Two of VT's commitments who had planned to visit this weekend, three-star WR Phil Patterson and punter Marshall Long will now be visiting next weekend. No word yet on three-star LB Emmanuel Belmar.

I've also been told that three-star CB Dominique Ross will likely visit at some point this week. He still plans to be at North Carolina next weekend for an official. One interesting note is that I've also been told from sources that Rivals250 safety Marlon Character plans to now visit VT next weekend. That one might be the most interesting of all the reschedules so far, since he's committed to Auburn and had planned to visit there next weekend.

The one that I've been told that has said he will not reschedule for next weekend is four-star JUCO OL Malcolm Pridgeon. The VT staff has been "pleasantly surprised" to still be in it, but this might have made that take a hit.

Will be posting more when I have it confirmed. But so far, it looks like VT will still have a good group in next weekend.

***INsider: 1.20 Recruiting Latest***

Guys, just wanted to touch on a few topics and a few things I've come across. As always, ask any other questions you guys have and I'll try my best to answer.

First off, you guys have been talking all week about Snowmageddon and it definitely sounds like it will be that. Coming a little early this year, since it's been Valentine's Day weekend the past two years for the big snow storm here in the NRV.

I spoke with my friends at WSLS-NBC told me a little while ago that they're forecasting 18-24 inches of snow in the NRV that will begin at about 5 am on Friday and go through late Saturday afternoon. What that means for the Hokies is that all the visitors they have planned for this weekend might not be able to make it. Any of the guys flying, which is most of them, will have to fly into Roanoke and if there's as much snow as being called for, that airport will likely be temporarily shut down.

I've now asked a few of my VT staff sources, who told me that they're now scrambling to figure out if there are ways around it. They also told me that it's pretty much impossible to get guys in before 2 pm if they come on Friday. So I asked, 'Can anyone come tomorrow night?' That's honestly something that they're looking into. If they can get a few in tomorrow night, by the time they leave Saturday night, the snow should have stopped and they could get out a little easier. But it's not just that easy. It's hard for a lot of guys and their families to change plans on such short notice and also not as easy to miss two days of school. But I do want to stress, it is something being looked at as a possibility. I'll let you guys know if that happens with anyone.

One of the guys I'm hearing more and more of is Palatka (Fla.) linebacker Eron Carter. I'm told the Hokies' staff loves him. I've been told, "There's something about him. He's a winner and his film is really good." He was supposed to visit WKU this weekend and VT the next, but his mom inquired today about visiting this weekend instead. With the weather coming, VT has told him that's not possible. So keep an eye on that one.

Another name I'm hearing more and more of is Trinity Christian (Fla.) three-star linebacker Dominique Ross. He unexpectedly committed to North Carolina in June, but has opened up more of late. I'm told that Miami is making a strong push here. But Ross' father is pretty much running this one and it looks like he won't be going to Miami. He's scheduled to visit this weekend, but we'll see what happens there. It also helps the Hokies that sophomore WR Isaiah Ford has also been working this one. He played with Ross at Trinity Christian. defensive coordinator Bud Foster is scheduled to visit Ross next week.

I know I posted an INsider last night, but it's sounding more and more like VT commit Tavante Beckett might be leaning more towards Maryland. He visited there this past weekend unofficially. A lot of people like to tie him in with his teammates, Rivals250 LB Jaquan Yulee and 2017 Rivals100 DB Devon Hunter, but I can tell you the bigger factor is Beckett's buddy and former teammate at Oscar Smith (Va.), Keyvone Bruton, who committed to Temple last summer. With the Terps scrambling in some ways, they're trying to work other angles and this is one. I can tell you that assistant coach Zohn Burden and Foster are scheduled to have an in-home visit tomorrow with Beckett as well as Yulee, so we'll see if Beckett thinks differently then.

I can also tell you that the Hokies haven't quite given up on Scotland County (NC) three-star linebacker Jonathan Smith. He's been committed to UNC since August. But assistant coach Charley Wiles paid Smith a visit at school today and also went to check in with 2018 running back target Zamir White, who will likely be a Rivals100 kid when those rankings are released. I think Smith will likely stick with the Tar Heels, but will be another interesting one to watch.

More updates coming when available, but wanted everyone to be as up to date as possible on some noteworthy recruiting news.

ND vs VT

What's your guys thoughts on the game tonight? I think this is a tough matchup for us I'm going with 89 to 77 and could be a game like duke if we don't hit some shot early. Get them in foul trouble could pull an upset but I don't see it tonight prove me wrong boys GO HOKIES

New Format

I would like to hear from other subscribers on the new format. My personal opinion is it took a great leap backwards. VT FB content seems much less, maybe just the time of the year but .......
Not that others care less but I am seriously considering not renewing my subscription unless it picks up. Would like others to give opinions. THX.
