I'm tired of hearing V

about our 4-5 star football players from VA going to Clemson, Florida State, Alabama and Ohio State and seeing them play for national championships. Do something to get them to go to VA Tech and see what we could do.

Maybe coach should break out the empty national championship showcase Beamer put in storage.

In basketball, the media says there are 2 big men in the Richmond area that are among the best in the nation. Buzz, you working on them yet?

The football season in review

A few thoughts about the season in the rear view mirror.
  • Evans, Hodges, and Ford not coming back kept Tech from being in the top 10. Hope they're doing ok wherever they might be right now.. Hope their agents are now driving an UBER.
  • The play-calling dropped off from last year for whatever reason. Maybe the coaches weren't confidant in asking this years players to take on more than they could handle.
  • Bud Foster is absolutely the best defensive coordinator in the country. Congrats to him for a great year.
  • They jury's out on Josh Jackson, For a freshman, he played well at times but it seemed that he didn't deliver in key situations. Perhaps with a years experience, he'll step up next year.
  • We really need the big running back who can pick up 3 yards on 3rd down. That hurt Tech all year.
  • A really good recruiting class. Looking forward to seeing what they can do in a year or two.
  • So, I do think Tech did better this year than I expected. A lot of teams including the boys down the street would be thrilled to be 9-4. It will be interesting to see what the schedule looks like for next year.

Bracketology

Despite a 13-4 overall record and a .500 mark currently in the ACC, VT is nowhere to be found in Joe Lunardi's latest release of his projected NCAA Tourney field. In fact, VT is also neither in its "First 4 Out" or even its "Next Four Out". Nine of our ACC counterparts are in the field.

This is shaping up in similar fashion to the infamous "certifiably insane" season under Seth Greenberg in which VT was snubbed despite a 23-8 overall record and an 11-7 finish in the ACC.

This is what happens when your out of conference schedule is closer to # 300 than it is to # 100 and your 13 wins don't include a single one against the Top 50.

Our only saving grace is that we do have eleven upcoming regular season opportunities against Top 50 ACC opponents. To make the Dance, we will need to win a considerable share of those games!
